solidworks >> IDF-Files

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

I tried to import (open) the attached files in SolidWorks 2007 (Open *.IDB).

The files contents a print with 3 holes and 3 components. All I can see
is only the print with 3 holes.

Is there something wrong with the files?

best regards

iQ here.
It looks like you are trying to open a PC Board file. i have had
little luck with any IDF translation. but there is hope from a little
OOPS from SolidWorks. First i have only gotten this to work in SWx
2008 SP3.0 (I have not tried earlier versions with this). install
CircuitWorks, it runs without limited time usage clause in this
version and service pack. the circuitworks translator can open
translations and coordinate bi-directional changes. we use allegro
and use .EMN files (which requires .EMP files). i use sketch
translations of features named correctly for the translator to work.
it is still not perfect but much better than trying to open IDF files
directly. i can enhance on this if you would like, i have a internal
process that we follow. if you need it i can post it here.

hope that this helps. iQ

Hy Dudi

Great, it works.
Thanks a lot.

Solidworks has the capability to import a IDF file from a
Cadence/Allegro but can not export a IDF File.

My SW rep. told me it was possible to develop a API that would create

if anybody has developed a API and what success they had in using the
IDF file? Also, is this something that available for free or can be
easily created?

Any input is appreciated?

Hello all,

I would like to have some IDF example Files to test my IDF translator for
I use it with LAYO1 (I made an IDF export tool for this as it has no IDF

I can import the files my tool generates but would like to support the rest

Currently it only supports the PCB outline and holes from the IDF file, it
places solidworks SLDPRT for the components.

7. IDF Import References Commonspace

We are having issues with import of components using
IDF files from Cadence Allegro in a Pro/ENGINEER
session linked to Pro/INTRALINK.

The components have been imported previously from Cadence
as IDF files into Pro/ENGINEER. The Pro/ENGINEER representation
of the board assembly (including the components) have been
checked into Commonspace.

We have defined the ECAD library as the master. We don't
create our own representation of electrical components -
we're happy with cubes. The definition of the component
has changed in Allegro and thus the IDF file. We need to
update the Pro/E representation.

When I import the IDF file (with the new component definitions),
the components existing in Commonspace take precedence over
the component definitions defined in the IDF file.

We have developed an internal process using an unlinked
Pro/ENGINEER session but I was wondering if anybody as a
clever solution to this problem.

Currently running :
Pro/ENGINEER 2001 / 2002430
Pro/INTRALINK 3.2 / 2002270
