Hi, I want to setup a broadband internet surfing proxy server for a
group of about 30 windows xp clients. I'd like it to do some
configurable content filtering. I would like to use my extra windowsXP
machine to do this. What program can I get that would be easy to
setup?

I was looking at safesquid. Are you using it? It seems like it would
do it.

I only used squid on FreeBSD and that was okay. A very long
configuration file though.

First, let me say a BIG THANK YOU to the awesome MVPs who freely share their
knowledge that they worked so hard to earn. Where would we be without you?
Many thanks - you do a fantastic service.
I read the November 24 post in this forum that said that it should be
possible to connect to SQL Server through a SmartDeviceApplication. I have a
working Windows App that talks great with SQL, so I copied over the exact
same connection info, but the SmartDeviceApp just times out as it is trying
to connect, even with a huge timeout string. It's not an issue with the
handheld, because I'm just trying to run it using the PC2003 emulator. The
code is so simple - just this in the load event of the form. It does display
the "trying" msgbox OK, then after 500 seconds dies. HUGE gratitude in
advance for any hints.
Dim myConnString = "User ID=sa;Data
Source=cindylulaptop;Password=;Initial Catalog=M1_DD;Persist Security
Info=True;Packet Size=4096;Connect Timeout=500"
Dim myConnection As New SqlClient.SqlConnection(myConnString)
MsgBox("trying...")
myConnection.Open()
MsgBox("success")
myConnection.Close()

5. Ie6, Proxy servers and no proxy servers
I have some WinXPPro notebooks with all latest updates and IE6 with all
latest updates.
These notebooks travel with their owner and can login and be a part of
several networks both public and private.
Some of these networks utilize proxy servers. I do not have control or
access to some of these proxy servers to administer configuration of any
sort.
How can my notebooks rove these networks and browse the Internet without
requiring the user to manually update the proxy address or turn it off in IE
depending on where they are.
Truthfully, a large portion of my problem disappears if I can just find an
automated means of apply a proxy address x.x.x.x when in location A and when
in any other location set to no proxy server. At the locations with proxy
servers of other than the home proxy address, the users do not require any
Internet access anyway so while I'd like to solve changing proxy addresses
automatically, I guess my most current need is to have it either on to a
specific address or off altogether - without user interaction though.
can anyone help?
