macintosh >> Mounting a roaming profile to a mac client

by TWlrZQ » Fri, 31 Dec 2004 10:39:04 GMT

I've searched around the internet and here to find a way to do this, but
haven't found any solution. How can I make mac clients automatically mount a
roaming profile's 'my documents' folder onto its desktop? I have mainly
windows XP based clients, but we're phasing in Mac OS X 10.3.7 (panther)
clients and cannot figure out how to mount users' roaming profiles stored on
a Windows 2003 Server machine.

Does anyone have a solution to this, or know or an online guide to achieve
this? Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

3. Error 16008 & network home folders ("roaming" profiles)

New install of Entourage 2004 connecting to an existing Exchange server,
upgraded from Outlook in Classic. Was able to successfully copy all
personal folders back up to the server, but since finishing that move,
Entourage flashes an "Error 16008" dialog a few times, the crashes.

All forms of the database rebuild complete successfully without discovering
or repairing any errors. Repairing disk permissions on the startup volume
using Disk Utility doesn't turn up anything. Logging into that user's homw
account from another machine with a completely brand-spankin-new copy
of office 2004 reproduces the crashes.

Several other sites (MiT, MacNN, VT, etc) have mentioned this problem,
some users have reported success launching Word 2004 and/or the
Microsoft Database Daemon (in /M$ Office 2004/Office/) before launching
Entourage, but in this user's case it continues to crash. The solution to the
Office v.X version of this problem, copying the Carbon Registration file
created by a local account over to the network user's library, doesn't work as
Office 2004 doesn't use that file anymore.

Considering how many networked-home users we have, if this doesn't get
resolved quickly we're going to have big problems.

5. Roaming profiles are not unloaded

Hi!

I have a problem with our Windows 2003 Server Environment. Since we have
installed the SP1 and R2 for the 2003-Server (German Version), we have
Problems with the unloading behavior of the locally cached roaming user
profiles. They will not unload completely because three index.dat files can
not be deleted. Because of this matter, every time a user logs on, new
folders are created like this: user_name, user_name.000, user_name.001 etc.
This behavior is described in KB840378 but this Hotfix is for pre-SP1 Users.
Until now I havent found a Hotfix that fixes our post-SP1 Servers.

Have you experienced the same problems or can you give me a hint of solving
this problem?

Greetings

The problem is that every where I've looked (In AD, on his computer)

him to have one?

Thanks!
