macintosh >> 30 + Mac on os 10.3 + Help connecting to W2k sp4

Problem 1

When one to four Mac attempt to connect it works. Once 4 are connected it
denies the rest. Mac's get "item not there" error. I found an article about
a secuirity policy and disabled it. (Digitaly sign Server communication
always) This seems to let most clients attach.

Is there any other reasons for this behavior?

Problem 2
Some mac's when mounting shares will connect but not put the new drive
(resource) on the desktop
The app we are running will not run properly when this happens (alias don't
seem to work either)

Problems 3
How can I get the mac clients to automaticly mount the 2 server resources
when they logon?
(Can I write a script? etc)

Thanks in advance

Jaymes

RE: Problem 3
When the user logs in, mount the share. Open System prefernces, User
Accounts, and choose login options (last tab on right) With the desktop also
visible drag the icon of the network drive to the window. Next time they
login, the share will mount.

2. Networking with Macs using Mac OS 10.3

A friend of mine (who is strictly a Mac guy) just bought a notebook with
Windows XP. He currently has 2 macs running MAC OS 10.3. The 2 Macs network
with one another via a Linksys router, using dynamic IP addresses. The
question is, how does he network his Windows XP PC so that he can share
"midi" files. I know PC's and he knows Mac's' too bad we don't know a thing
about the other.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

3. WMP 9 for Mac OS 10.3

4. Mac 10.3 clients corrupting filenames on w2k server

We have 2 problems with excel files being locked and renamed whenever they
are opened by Mac OS X 10.3.4 clients

If an Excel document named "Renovation Budget 2nd Revision September 2003"
is opened and saved, the file name is
changed to Renovation Budget 2nd Revision Septemb#18" This only happens to
files opened from and saved to the
Windows server. Seems to happen to files with longer names.

Once the file is first opened by the Mac, PC's cannot open the file in "read
only" mode.

However, if the file is opened first by a PC then the Mac can access it in
"read only" mode.

Windows server is a W2k sp3

Mac clients connect via SMB, would AFP be better?

Thanks

5. Windows 2003 Server and Mac OS 10.3

6. Mac OS X 10.3 can't print to Win 2K DC print queue

We have a Win 2000 DC (DC1) that is setup for DNS, DHCP,
and Print server on our network. We run a mix of PC's
and Mac's (G4's).

The output from the print queue in question first goes to
a paused print queue. The HP 5M has a 192.xxx.xxx.xxx IP
to keep it internal.

The Mac's were able to print to the DC up to a couple of
weeks ago, and then they could not print at all. DC1 is
current with all Windows Updates and security patches.

The standard Mac print setup is LPD/LPR; <DC1/DNS IP>;
<DC PrintQueueName>.

1. Printing to the pay print queue from the Mac showed
the print job starting then goes to "will retry in 30
seconds" and stays there. Inspection of the DC1 print
queue shows no print job in the queue.

2. Testing through another W2K DC (DC2) print queue to
the same printer allowed printing normally.

3. Test printing directly to the HP 5M printer IP printed
ok.

We have isolated the problem to something that has
changed on DC1. Everything checks out OK on both Mac and
DC1, nothing has visibly changed, nor has any
adminstrator made any changes to the settings.

We have spent a lot of time trying to run this problem to
ground, but still no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
