by YW5kcmV3 » Tue, 09 Nov 2004 23:17:02 GMT

Hello,

We have a mixed network enviroment,

2000 server as the file server and master domain.

XP machines and Mac OSX clients, the problem is when a MAc OSX client
machines joins our domain it turns into the master browser (when the windows
file sharing option is on the OSX machine).

the 2000 server is set to be the master, why is this happening? what can I
do to solve this?

thanks

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Hi Andrew!

Download a copy of SharePoints from < http://www.versiontracker.com >.
Under the SMB Properties heading you can set the option for Master
Browser for your machine.

Hope this helps! bill

Hi Andrew!

Maybe I wasn't clear. You can set the option, on or off, for your Mac OS
X machine to be a master browser using the SharePoints software.

I've noticed that it seems to be on by default.

Good luck! bill

2. Copy files from a Windows 2000 server to a Macintosh client: error -128

Hi

I have a C++ project for Windows and Macintosh. If I want to copy the
project (directories and files) from Windows to the Macintosh error -128
occurs. I work as follows:

- The project is on the Macintosh client (Mac OS X 10.2) and I work with it.
- If I finished, I copy the whole project (directories and files) to a
temporary directory on a Windows 2000 server
- From there I copy the whole project to a Windows 2000 client
- I edit it on the Windows 2000 client
- If I finished, I compare the project on the Windows 2000 client with the
project on the Windows 2000 server using ExamDiff Pro (a Windows shareware
tool) and adjust the two projects. Adjust means I copy the newer or added
files on the Windows 2000 client project to the Windows 2000 server project
- If the projects are adjusted, I delete the existing project on the
Macintosh client and copy the whole project from the Windows 2000 server to
the Macintosh client.

During the copy from the Windows 2000 server to the Macintosh client,
unknown error number -128 occurs and copying is canceled. It could be that
the problem occurs with the files I copied from the Windows 2000 client to
the Windows 2000 server (CR/LF instead of CR???), but I'm not sure.

- What could be the problem?
- What is error number -128?

Thanks for the help

Regards
Hans

6. Mac OSX Clients in AD server environment - anomalies

Hello all,

Im going to post a basic rundown of our current environment that mainly
consists of PCs, with a handfull of OSX Mac clients (lets say 60odd). Im
hoping for some input from anyone else out there in the world that has seen
similar problems occur in this environment.

File client / server permissions 10.3.x and 10.4.x clients are
experiencing problems when renaming folders and deleting files etc on the AD
file servers.

* Issue occurring on current w2k AD file servers

* Issue occurring in testing on w2k3 AD file servers

* Occurring for a variety of 10.3.x versions inclusive of the latest 10.3.9
revision

* Issue also found to occur with 10.4.x clients in testing

* Clients can save documents to the file servers

* Clients can create folders on the file servers

* Clients experience troubles when deleting files in some cases (generic
permissions based error occurs). Not in all cases. Intermittent for some.

* Clients experience troubles when renaming folders with file contents
(generic permissions based error occurs). Not in all cases. Intermittent for
some.

* Documents accessed via an OSX client from a 2k file server are unable to
be accessed by other users at the same time, even read access (in most cases).

Hopefully thats enough to get the ball rolling.. if at all

Cheers guys.
