VB Crystal Report >> Cannot create DAO DB Engine

by Andy Baker » Sat, 22 Nov 2003 00:12:55 GMT

Since upgrading to Win XP pro from Win98, I occasionally get error messages
appearing with my Vb app. The error message is "Crystal Reports - Can not
create DAO DB Engine." It doesn't always happen, if I shut down & restart
windows, it often goes away, and I have not produced the error when running
the app, it happens when loading it into the IDE or when compiling to
produce an EXE file. All reports it the app appear to be working OK. Does
anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this? My app uses
VB6 and the Crystal Reports 8.5 RDC.

1. "Unable to intialize DAO/Jet db engine"

...while trying to open an Access 97 .mdb file with an MFC (MSVC 6.0) app
using CDaoDatabase classes. The really odd thing is that I have other apps,
written with _extremely_ similar code, that happily open _extremely_ similar
databases, on the same machine. This app works on some machines, not on
others.
Any ideas?
BTW, if there's a better forum, please advise.

I am trying to connect to our Access databases on our LAN
and WAN but the Jet Engine is not connecting. All
permissions have been properly set.

The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the
file '\\Server\File'. It is already opened exclusively by
another user, or you need permission to view its data.

I have full control permissions on each server and none of
the files are open. I can physically open and change data
in each of the shared folders but just cant access it
through the Jet Engine.

 Thanks for any help.

7. SqlCnx.Open() no error when MSSQLServer db engine stopped

Hi,
My VB.Net application doesn't receive a catch error when
the MS SQL Server 2000 database engine is suddenly
stopped.
In stead the sqlcnx.Open() command results in a 'open'
state although the database is not available. The program
continues on the next line in stead of going to
the 'catch ex as SQL Exception' .

What can I do?
