Microsoft Office Publisher >> Publisher Prints "square Os" in place of some Text...

by Rick Spence » Wed, 08 Oct 2003 03:56:35 GMT

I need assistance in solving a client's problem with
printing from MS Publisher 2002. Publisher has had all
available updates applied from the Office Website. When
they load existing documents into Publisher they either
load correctly with no messages or they get a message
saying that Publisher can't find an embedded font and it
offers a substitute font either on a temporary or
permanent basis. Either way, the document looks correct
on the computer screen but when it is sent to their
networked Canon iR400e Printer, most of the text, but not
all, appears as "square 0s" instead of normal text. The
Layout is correct and the embedded graphics print
correctly. This document was printing correctly until
about 3 weeks ago, and it still prints correctly if it is
printed from a different networked workstation. If you
have any suggestions on solving this issue, I would
greatly appreciate them. I can FAX a copy of the document
if it is needed.

Use TweakUI for the version of Windows that is been used and repair the Font
Folder.

After managing to set up OE-QuoteFix on his new PC, Ed reads a message
from Rick Spence < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >...

This is probably because the embedded fonts are preview-only - they do not
make it to the printer.
Make sure you have all the fonts used in the publication installed on the
workstation in question.

1. Text is square in oval shape, Publisher 2003

I put an oval shape on a page, filled it with text and the text was square.
Bummer.

I thought I would share my work around. Put an arc autoshape and work it
into an almost oval. Then using the helpful autoshape boundaries adjust it
til its only the left half of the oval. In the layout properties, wrap text
right only. Copy and Paste the shape. Rotate it the new shape 180 degrees,
in the layout properties, wrap text left only. Place the two shapes together
to form the oval. Next, place a normal text box so that it just encompasses
the oval. Fill it with some text. The arcs have to be in front of the text,
and publisher can be a little touchy about getting the order right. Once the
text is wrapping properly, group the whole thing. Save it to your scratch
area and your done.

5. Problems printing a (semi-) transparent square over a photo

I'm working in publisher, and trying to get a nice background for each page.
I have a photo covering the entire page, and then a rectangle filled in with
a color, but about 50% opaque so that the photo shows through and then text
over that. It looks absolutely fantastic, BUT it won't print out that way OR
convert to PDF that way. Instead, the photo does not show through at all and
so the background is only the plain color. I've tried changing the opacity
levels, I've tried different colors, I've even tried different printers
(color, black and white, pdf, etc) and made sure the the quality and dpi are
at the highest levels. Why isn't this working!?

Please help!

7. Emails from publisher show window when cursor placed on text

I am using Publisher 2003 with W/XP. I type up a flyer to e-mail and
use the Microsoft plug-in to send. I click on File, Send E-mail and
then "Send this page as message."

When it's received a window appears when the recipients cursor is
placed over the text. This is distracting and sometimes the window is
large.

Has anyone experience this problem and resolved it? I have run a dozen
tests using various options. It even occurs using a template with no
other text input.

Thanks...... Bill
