Microsoft Office Publisher >> viewing TIFF files

Hi, I posted this question a little while back, however,
the fix didn't work. Our church designs and prints
bulletins for other nearby churches using Pub. 2000. They
use a set of clipart discs with religious symbols and such
to add art to these bulletins. The clipart is TIFF
formatted. The TIFF files print fine, however when you
view them on screen prior to printing they are displayed as
black blocks. The suggested fix was to assure the picture
viewer was set to "display detail". Doing this did not
change the graphic's display though. It may be worth
noting that these TIFF files displayed fine in Pub. 98.
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Rob there are about twenty flavours of TIF of which Publisher supports the
most common eight - which is the norm.
However, I find it interesting they displayed in Publisher 98 and do not
display in Publisher 2000.

I would suggest you download the *excellent* freeware Irfanview
www.irfanview.com and convert all the TIF files to PNG.
Irfanview will batch convert the whole lot in one go and anything else you
may want.

3. TIFF file with alpha channel mask does not convert well to PDF

Hi,

I have the following problem and wondered if anyone else has come
across it. Software involved is Publisher 2003, PSP 9, Trial of Acrobat
Professional 7.0 and DeskPDF. (PDF settings use Postscript Level 3.)

I have a simple graphic of an arrow. I created a mask for the arrow in
PSP. The mask blanks out everything but the shape of the arrow and puts
a fade on the tail end of the arrow so that it just melts away. This
mask was saved to an alpha channel and the resultant file saved as a
TIF and PNG.

When both copies of the file are inserted into Publisher, everything is
as it should be. The arrow shape sits on the foreground and the tail
fades into the background. When I go to produce the PDF through the
print option, both Acrobat and DeskPDF produce a file where the fade
portion of the arrow is chopped off suddenly. The rest of the mask
works; there's no white background to the arrow shape. It's just that
the fade is brought to a sudden halt and not let to gradually blend in
with the background.

One interesting thing to note is that Acrobat 7.0 now puts a toolbar in
every Office application that allows you to do a one click conversion
to PDF. This process appears to be different to the Print option. Under
this conversion method the PNG graphic appears in the PDF as it appears
in Publisher with a lovely blend into the background.

I'd appreciate your comments.

Regards,

Dominic

7. Printed file looks like screen view instead of print view

I am working on someone else's file. When I open it, the colors view
incorrectly. They show as black/white in the negative & no color pictures
(the background is showing black - these are not the settings in the file.)
In the print preview, everything is correctly in color - text, pictures, etc.
But when I print, it comes out exactly like the screen view and not the
print view. The original owner of the file has no problem seeing the file
correctly. We may have different versions of Publisher - I get the same
results importing or opening the file. The owner is 20 miles away and can't
print to my printer. I need to have these printed for a bunch of 6 year old
girl scouts in 4 hours. HELP!
