wireless >> 2003 VPN - Not like XP

I have a W2K server set up with RRAS for VPN clients to connect to my local
network (LNET). XP clients connect all the time with no problems, The XL VPN
client's Security Options are set to "Require secured password" and "Require
data encryption" and it's IPSec Settings ... are empty - The Type of VPN is
"Automatic".

On my h4150, I connect wirelessly to LNET with no problem and can use the
mail servers, etc. with their internal IP addresses. I also set up my Sanyo
SCP-5150 as a modem (Sprint PCS) to connect to the Internet while away from
hotspots. It works great, I can browse the web, etc. I get an IP address
assigne by Sprnt's DHCP.

I'm trying to set up a VPN to connect to my W2K RRAS server when I'm on a
hotspot using WiFi or when dialied into the Internet using my "Sprint PCS"
modem connection.

So I used the Wizard to set it up, Name LNET, Host Name/IP: (same as the XP
clients use), VPN Type PPTP (tried both), Username/Password/Domain (same as
used by XP VPN clients). Great. So I think now I can either fire up the WiFi
or Dial into "Sprint PCS" and then fire up the VPN and I'll be able to use
my local addresses, right? Wrong.

If I have WiFi on and click to connect on the VPN, it just looks at me like
"Try to make me". If I turn off WiFi and dial into "Sprint PCS" then click
on the VPN to connect, it re-dials the "Sprint PCS" and then just looks at
me. If I have WiFi off and am not dialed into "Sprint PCS", it dials "Sprint
PCS" and then just laughs at me. I check my W2L RRAS screens and refresh
them at every step to see if it connected and the PPC just didn't want me to
know about it - it never connected.

Do I feel stupid. Can anyone point me to a Windows Mobile 2003 set of
instructions that tell me how to do this and show me what I can expect to
see? The 2002 screens are different.

Well I have everyting working now. I deleted the "Sprint PCS" mode under
"Work" and added it under "Internet". That did the trick. I don't understand
the reason for the distinction or what other programs are affected. Is there
a way to determine which programs are "Programs that automatically connect
to the Internet" (My ISP) and "Programs that automatically connect to a
private Network" (My Work Network)?

How do you set a program like a mail reader to use the Internet when you are
on a modem and the private Network when WiFi in your office?

ow I have almost everything working. When I am on my local domain using
WiFi I set the "Programs that automatically connect me to the Internet" to
(My Work Network), When I want to use the SCP-5150 as a modem to the Sprint
PCS network, I set "Programs that automatically connect me to the Internet"
to (My ISP) and the VPN works.

I hope I can use the VPN when I am using WiFi in a hotspot rahter than my
local domain. I won't be able to test that till next week. If anyone knows
the magic combo to make that work, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
David A. Beck
