1. Defective Ipaq 5550 or defective HP tech support?
HP is advising me to return my new Ipaq 5550 for
service because the only way i can succesfully connect
wirelessely to the internet via my home wireless
network is immediately after a hard reset. At other
times i get the message: "unable to obtain a server
assigned ip address, try again later or manually enter
an ip address". WEP encryption is not enabled. (this
Ipaq has integrated 802.11b wireless). My home
network
consists of a Linksys WAP 11 Access Point, A desktop
(WIN 98SE with a Cisco 350 series wireless card)
configured as the Internet Connection Sharing host and
a laptop (WIN XP PRO with a Cisco 350 series wireless
client adapter) configured as the ICS client. The
network is set up as an infrastructure type and there
is no wired (ethernet) network... the WAP 11 RJ 45
port often used to connect the wireless network to a
wired network has no cable connected to it in this
topology. The desktop has a V.92 dial-up modem which
connects me to my ISP. The Ipaq senses the wireless
network and shows good signal strength but i get the
error message when i try to connect to a website. Only
right after a hard reset does the Ipaq antenna icon
appear along with the "wireless network detected" box.
Thank You, Kirk

5. A little confused about wireless on my iPaq 5550
My ipaq 5550 connects to my wireless network at home when I "Turn Wireless On" with the little flashing wireless light flashing green and I can browse the network and internet no problem through my Linksys wireless router. Whilst connected if I look at Connections, Advanced, Network card it shows the wireless network "linksys" (my name for it) as "connected". Sometimes I use my PPC to connect at one of the free cybercafe's like Gloria Jeans Coffee shops and it connects ok but with the connection showing something like "Cybercafe" or "Edward" (I have no idea where these names come from, they just automatically appear). But sometimes there are several networks that are shown as "Available" and I don't know how to select a particular one of these. Sometimes the ipaq says I am connected to "linksys" when I am at a shopping mall even though my home network is 20 km away and even though it says "Connected" the flashing light stays orange and I can't browse the internet. How do i correctly set this up to connect to the network I want to when away from home? Can aybody step me through this or give me a URL? Thanks, Pete

7. IPAQ 5550 : Wireless connection problem
Hi ! I am trying to connect my IPAQ 5550 via Netgear MA311 PCI Adapter to the Internet. I have a signal strength "Excellent" but every time I try to connect via IE I get the Error message: "The page you are looking for cannot be found". :( The IPaq connects fine to the network card in my PC (green light is flashing slowly) and I can see that there is traffic in the Sent / Received Activity box (PC) but nothing works. I've tried all possible settings without success ! Has anyone an idea why or maybe a solution ? Thanks in advance.. Greetings.. Markus
