wireless >> Terminal Services Client problem

by Steve Muir » Tue, 23 Sep 2003 04:51:19 GMT

I have a Toshiba e755 that came with the TS Client pre-installed and it
times out when trying to connect to either of my TS machines (one is
Win2K Advanced Server and one is Windows Server 2003). I know I have my

network settings set right because I can see external and internal web
sites using Pocket IE. I can access my TS servers with desktop-based
clients but not with the 755 - "Terminal Services Client Disconnected -
The connection to the server has timed out..."

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

One thing to look at is the encryption level on the server end. I get the same error message if I
set my XP Pro boxes encryption level for Remote Desktop (ie. the XP Terminal Server) to "High"
versus the default "Not configured" or "Client compatible". This is from my iPAQ 3835 running the
PPC 2002 OS. In XP Pro that is set via a Group Policy...

I'm using the built-in WiFi card.

I also haven't played with the servers' encryption so I assume they're still
set to their default. I'm checking that right now. I don't have XP servers
(Win2K AS and Server 2003) so I'm not sure exactly where the settings are.

Thanks,
Steve

Definitely check the encryption - the lack of high encryption is a
known limitation. The reference to Windows XP was in using the Remote
Desktop - you can use the Terminal Services Client to connect to a
Windows XP Professional machine with Remote Desktop turned on.

Rob,

I checked the encryption. It was set to "client compatible". I set it to "low"
and it doesn't make any difference. I've searched and searched and I can't find
any other known issues besides the encryption. Do you know of anything else I
can try? Is there an updated TS client that I can download? Anything???

Thanks,
Steve

Terminal Services Client problem

by Steve Muir » Tue, 23 Sep 2003 23:57:41 GMT

I soft-reset my PDA and now I'm getting "the terminal server ended the session"
rather than "the session timed out". Hmmmmmm...... I don't see anything in the
Event Viewer that it couldn't grant a license or anything like that. Not sure
what this means.

Could this have anything to do with the fact that my network is a pre-Win2K
domain and I'm trying to connect to Win2K or Win2003 servers?

Thanks,
Steve

HAAAAAAA!!!!!!! It works now. Following my domain logic, I tried connecting
to an NT 4 TSE machine. It connected, but locked up as I was entering my
password. I tried soft-resetting and the screen locked up at the Compal bios
screen. I had to hard-reset and now everything works fine (Win2K AS and
Windows Server 2003). What a pain...

I should've know it was too good to be true. I could connect to each server
exactly *once* and that was it. I'm back in the same boat - timeout.....

Are you connecting to the admin console? Maybe it thinks there's still
an admin console open and won't allow you to connect again?

have the same problem. Connect once then hard reset to
connect again. A temporary solution is to edit the
registry on the PDA and delete the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MSLICENSING. This
will allow you one more connect but then must be deleted
again to connect again.

5. pocket pc 2003 SE terminal services client full screen problem

Hi, My handheld is Casio IT-10 which is running on pocket pc 2003 SE. And the
resolution is 640X480(VGA). I managed to hide the top bar and the command bar
in terminal services client by using a software called "SPB kiosk terminal"
(It was supposed to be able to give me additional space on the full screen
when I am using the terminal services client) Then top bar and the command
bar were replaced by empty space. But the terminal service client doesn't
resize itself...
I reckon that it is not the spb software problem. I believe it is because
something has been hardcored in Microsoft Terminal Service Client.

Can I edit the registry to resize the terminal services client or change the
resolution from 640X480 to 320X240? Please advise. Thanks!!

7. VPN & Terminal Services Client

I am attempting to create a VPN to an SBS2003 network, and then use the
Terminal Services Client to remote desktop into a workstation. I am having
trouble connecting to the workstations however.

If I use my PC to create a VPN tunnel to the SBS server, I am able to use
WinXP remote desktop in order to gain entry into the server and workstations
by using the machine name, IP address and machinename.FQDN.local. I am not
able to connect by using the 8 character W2k domain name (ie,
machinename.w2kdomainname.local)

However, with the PPC, I am not able to gain entry to the workstations,
although I am able to RD into the SBS server (by using the servername).
When attempting to connect to the workstations using the machine/domain
name, I am told that the
computer cannot be found. If I use the IP address, I receive a timeout
message, even if I enter the IP address of the SBS machine.

Any idea why I am able to VPN/RD using a PC, but cannot RD into a
workstation on the PPC? Is there something that needs to be modified on the
workstations (WinXP SP2) in order to allow a TSC connection from a PPC?

Thanks,

Rob
