Pocket PC Networking >> basic newbie question

by bmV3ZXN0IG5ld2JpZQ » Sat, 30 Apr 2005 01:40:03 GMT

I'm very unknowledgeable about Windows network programming. I have a basic
understanding of networking principals in general and I've done a couple of
ppc applications, but I'm not sure where to start relative to doing a project
using something like WiFi.

- I think I need to look into Winsock programming, is that correct?

- Can anyone tell me where I should start if I want to get two ppc devices
to communicate(just send an acknowledgement at least) using WiFi?

- Does the ConnectionManager API for pocket pc handle making the network
connection for WiFi?

Thanks for any help.

Configuring your wifi connection aside. From a programming perspective yes,
you do indeed want to use winsock for communicating between two devices. You
can set one up as the server side waiting on accept for connections and the
other as the client calling connect to connect to the server.

Pocket PC Networking >> basic newbie question

Ok thanks a lot for the information. So, I've found a few "chat" projects
that are open source. That should be very helpful for the communications
that will take place. However, I'm having difficulty grasping how to setup
an intitial peer-peer (pocket pc - pocket pc) wifi connection. Can anyone
point me in a helpful direction on this? Its not simply setting up a server
on one pocket pc and the other pocket pc specifying the server's ip address
and port number is it?

When developing apps for Pocket PC devices, does the Microsoft Visual
Studio.Net package allow for applications to be fully developed and tested
on a desktop OS? I am interested to know if a Pocket PC emulator is
included so that screen size and resolution, memory management and
everything can be handled on a desktop OS such as WinXP so that the software
only has to be physically moved to the actual device when ready to begin
late Alpha or Beta testing.

Thanks,

4. Basic Newbie networking question

Hello all, I'm in the process of setting up a home network I have a
server running Windows 2003 Standard edition and two XP Professional SP2
client machines. So far I have created two users on the server and given
them passwords, added user accounts on the clients with identical
passwords as the server, and made all three boxes members of a common
workgroup. The problem I have is with authentication , when I logon to
one of the clients I thought this would automatically log me in to the
server but , it doesn't. If I then open up explorer ( on the client )
browse to "Entire Network" I can see the server listed but when I click
on it, it prompts me for a name and password - saying one of the two is
incorrect , which I know is not the case. If I then enter the password
I'm logged in with no further ado - what am I doing wrong ? do I need to
create a domain for such a simple network ?

6. Please help newbie with basic question.

Hello to all interested home wireless router experts!

I have recently inherited a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SRX400 WRT54GX4. I have successfully set it up on my main home desktop computer and it seems to be functioning correctly. (I have high speed internet through a TV cable modem at this location).

I would now like to add the equipment necessary to my other computer on the other side of the house in order to pick up the wireless signal from the router. Both computers have the Windows XP Operating System.

I am hoping that someone will verify for me that the device I need to install on my remote computer is the Linksys Wireless G USB Network Adapter SRX400 WUSB54GX4. I am under the impression that this is the "receiving" part of the "wireless router" setup and the router is the "sending" device. Is this correct?

I am also under the impression that this will work without me having to contact my high speed internet service provider (Comcast). Is this also correct?

Thank you for whatever assistance you can render me in this matter!

I have downloaded Embedded Visual Basic 3.0

My problem is that when I open Visual basic , new project , there is no
