installation >> How do I make Outlook 2003 automatically recognize logged-in user

by Jim Buston » Wed, 07 Jan 2004 23:43:23 GMT

When installing Outlook 2000, we were able to use a
registry hack to allow Outlook 2000 to automatically
recognize the logged in user and thus present that user
with his/her e-mail. There was no need to make the user
select his/her profile from a list of profiles on that
box. How can I do the same thing in Outlook 2003?

Thanks.

I know of no such registry hack. Generally, this is done with roaming
profiles and the Outlook profile tools provided in the Office Resource Kit.

1. Outlook does not recognize user logged on, SBS 2003

I hope this qualifies as an SBS question!

A domain user is set up on a workstation that is connected to an SBS 2003
workstation. Their e-mail is functioning properly connected to the Exchange
server.

A second domain user comes along and wants to log on to the workstation he
does not normally use so he can check his e-mail or become a subsidiary user
of this workstation. When Outlook 2003 starts, it does not recognize the
user. Instead, non-technical staff are presented with the dialogue asking
for the name of the Exchange server and the name of the mailbox.

Is this normal and is their a way to overecome this? I support this company
but they are 2 1/2 hours away.

Thanks in advance.

7. Macros do not save as users log off / log on

Hi, I have a user that freqeuntley creates macros in Outlook for default
messages. Just recently we had to rebuild her PC due to problems created by
new 3rd party software. Her computer has been rebuilt without the 3rd party
software to avoid any further issues until thoroughly tested.

She is using Office Pro 2k3 SP2 and now with her newly rebuilt PC when she
goes into Outlook, selects to create a new message, goes to tools - macros -
record macro, types her message and hits the stop button. She then looks to
make sure the macro has saved (which it has saved as macro1). She then
closed Outlook and re-opens Outlook and check again, the macro is still here.
She then logs off and logs back onto her computer and re-opens outlook,
selects new message and at this point (after logging off/on) her macro has
disapearred.

- I have tried using a different user account on this PC, and the same
problem persists.
- I have tried renaming her local profile, and the same problem persists.
- I have had the user log onto a seperate computer and test, the other
computer works without issue (macros save after log off / on)
- I have removed office from her computer and re-installed. And the same
problem persists.
- I have removed office and downloaded ork.exe and used the removal tool to
remove all remaining pieces of office. And the same problem persists.

I am baffled by this issue, I feel as if a rebuild of the computer may solve
the problem, but I would like to know the root issue. Any suggestion or help
would be greatly appreciated.
