installation, Outlook closes immediately on opening

As any chosen Outlook profile is opened I get a message
which says:

Program: C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~3\Office10\OUTLOOK.EXE
abnormal program termination
OK

If I then click to open a second time it works fine,
however if I close and go to another profile the same
thing happens again.

Can anyone offer advice?

I used "search" to find it and changed it to
oldoutcmd.dat but I still have the problem. Do I have to
reboot?

Nope, only restarting outlook is necessary to see if this is the fix.

Try detect and Repair - look on the help menu. If that doesn't help, it
could be bad *.srs files, but since it happens to more than one profile, it
will surprise me if it does. <g> Rename the *.srs file for the profiles to
test it.

Also, if you use the same pst with the profiles, try a new profile with a
new pst and just one account. if it works, rename your old pst's and let
outlook create a new one and see if it works...

I'm nervous about detect and repair because of the
default warnings. I've got email template software in
there and it's such a nightmare to get that registered I
don't want to try again.

I sort of know what a .pst file is, something to do with
addresses. I set up my contacts file and calender only
in one profile, I did this by connecting it to my phone
with nokia software, it seemed easier than trying to
discover how to export or import.

I think I may just have to live with it till I manage to
trap an expert in the ofice!
