installation >> Outlook 2K Security Patch Configuration

by Stacey » Sat, 03 Jan 2004 06:37:47 GMT

I need to configure outlook 2K to trust a single program to send email. The
error message the program currently generates is "A program is trying to
access.... Do you want to allow this?" I found the MSDN article that
explains how to configure a policy to allow programs to send email using the
outlook mail object, but I would rather find a way that says "Allow this
application to use the outlook mail object" instead of allow all
applications. Is there a way to do this? If so, please remove the NoSpam
from the email below. Thanks.

No, there's no way to do that in Outlook 2000.

Hard to believe that security patches require install CD's

Accessing due to VPN network connect allows network OR intenet not both.

I tried getting the updates seperately, didn't work, something either tries to go online or wants the network share.

4. Outlook 2K patch issue.

We are running several XPSP2 machines with Outlook 2K SR3. In an
attempt at preventing hang on exit issues, I've been applying the patch
described in KB834005. (support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=834005)
Unfortunately, some users still report hanging issues. Without fail,
the patch does not appear to be applied correctly for these users.
Rerunning the patch installer on a machine where it has already been
applied *should* result in an Add/Remove/Repair option screen.
However, this does not happen on machines that still exhibit hanging
problems. The installer instead runs through the same way every time,
appearing to apply the patch each time.

Is anyone aware of what might be causing this? It looks to me that
the patch isn't taking hold as well as it should. Is there something
that might be interfering with the patch process? Any insight would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

6. Win Update patch affects outlook 2K refreshing messages?

After installing WSUS and releasing several updates, incoming emails are not
refreshing in Outlook 2000. The user must click on something in outlook and
then they will refresh in the inbox......We use Exchange 2000. this is
affecting updated computers only......So I doubt its a coincidence.......Does
anyone know of any known bugs in an outlook or patch that would do this? This
affects clients running Outlook 2000 on Windows 2000 and Windows XP
professional.

I will post this in the outlook forum as well.

8. How to roll out Office 2k & XP patches ????

Several months ago there were a few MS03.xxx and MS04.xxx
office patches listed. I would like to rollout these
patches but having trouble finding an efficient way. I
could try a logon script, but havent figured out the
right way for the Office XP patches to install on Office
XP machines and Office 2000 patches to install on Office
2000 machines on the same network. SMS is out of the
question for me and I uses SUS for windows patches. I
heard the the new WUS will also support Office XP patches
(but not Office 2k).

Whats the most efficent way to roll out these patches?
