Microsoft Office Outlook >> Outlook2000 smtp error 0x800ccc0f

I can receive tho not send even test emails. I have the latest SPs/updates. I
have also tried OE6 and even Netscape7(which seems to send but mails never
arrive). I have tried several diagnostic packages. One, a spam blocker, did
not locate the smtp info. I have checked with my ISP and I can send emails
from my mailzone server. My settings are correct and there are no extraneous
boxes ticked. Could this be a registry problem?

One, a spam blocker, did not locate the smtp info.
I have checked with my ISP and I can send emails from my mailzone server.
My settings seem to be correct and there are no extraneous boxes ticked.
Could this be a registry problem? I previous had Office XP on the system. It
became corrupted. I uninstalled it and I replaced it with Office2000
Premium. If I reinstall Windows what would I lose?

I have tried all the troubleshooting w/o any progress. I have disabled my
firewall, even completely unistalled Nortonsystemworks 2005, un/re-installed
my internet mail accts, etc. I am a home/office used, no network, dial-up
modem, NTL connection, Onetel ISP, no proxy servers, really nothing fancy,
yet I cannot send a email and am quickly losing my mind.

here is a log I created by editing the Registry.

4. Error 0x800ccc0f when sending via SMTP

I am running Outlook 2002 on XP SP1 (tried to upgrade to SP2 recently,
but ran out of space ...) - anyway, a couple of days ago I started
getting the "connection to the server was interrupted" error message
with above #. While being able to receive emails just fine, I can't
send anything.

To my confusion really, because I ran the current setup for quite some
time with no problems and none of my settings have changed recently (to
my knowledge). It is also weird that other computers on the same
network don't seem to have this problem. A G4 running OS X with
Entourage, however, partially is experiencing the same: two out of four
SMTP accounts can't send anymore (but all can receive).

I turned NAV and Pers. Firewall on and off, deleted to mails in the
outbox, sent new ones, disabled email scanning, verified the POP/SMTP
server settings - to no avail ... I'm running out of ideas ...

Anyone? - Thx.

Thank you Jim, I will give it a try.

Just curious how this could have started - one day it all worked and the
next day it does not .... did you ever find out why?

I appreciate the help!

this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'mail.optusnet.com.au', Server: 'mail.optusnet.com.au',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F" and
