Java applet can not run correctly in Netscape unless dial up is running

by Kelly L » Fri, 13 Dec 1996 03:00:00 GMT

This is terrible!  I used to be able to run java applet from Netscape
on my computer at home.  But not any more since I down load Netscape
Gold 3.0.  First, none of the applet from Sun's java demos shows up in
Netscape Gold 3.0.  I deleted Netscape Gold 3.0 directory and
reinstalled Netscape 3.0.  Sun's java demo applets can not show up in
Netscape 3.0 any more. (message "applet is loaded" shows in the status
bar at the bottom).  Then I reinstalled windows95.  Things were not
better.  But as soon as I dial up with the network the java demos can
show up in Netscape 3.0, even they turned to be much slower then
before.
Have any one met such a thing?

Yeahhh ... I tried out NN 3 and removed it pretty fast too! I think the
JIT compiler is poorly implemented for graphics intensive applets. Also,
I noticed that when you load an applet page from a LOCAL FILE, the applet
loads but seems to require a "mouse over" the applet area to trigger its
start.
About to jump ship to IE 3.01
