tex >> Best software for presenting beamer-produced PDFs?

by sinoslav@gmail.com » Sun, 22 Mar 2009 04:03:37 GMT

I usually use powerpoint for my slide presentations, but I am trying
to migrate to beamer. One of the few things I really miss about
powerpoint, however, is the Presenter View: the projector display gets
a full-screen slide but at the same time the laptop display has a
smaller version of the slide plus nifty tools like a stopwatch and a
scrollable outline view of all slides, which allows you to, e.g.,
search around for a particular desired slide to jump to without
changing the projector display. Is there any PDF viewer software
available that has something comparable?

Many thanks,

Roger

Not really the same but try http://impressive.sourceforge.net/
Then you will start to miss things when in powerpoint. :-)

Ways to keep time are available.

Well, that is really darn cool. Doesn't really have the multi-monitor
effects I was looking for that Powerpoint has, but thanks for pointing
me to it, I'll use it.

3. Software to turn image -PDFs to searchable-text-PDFs

I see different solutions to turn an image PDF to a word file
(scansoft, pdf converter, abbyy pdf transformer, etc.).

But what about a software that turns image-pdf in text-PDFs (image on
the front, if you want, but text in the background)?

Obviously there are always standard OCR packages (Omnipage and
Finereader, comes to mind).
But is there a software (apart Acrobat capture plug-in, which is a bit
cumbersome) that does turn PDFs-image Files in PDF-text searchable
files in an automatic way as the above products do for MS Word?

TIA for any suggestion or hint.

7. PDFs not being produced by Acrobat Assistant

Recently, and only when printing to Distiller from Photoshop (not from
any other application), the Acrobat Assistant has been intermediately
failing. I can see the Distiller icon in the normal way in the Taskbar
after the printer icon disappears, but Acrobat never gets opened and no
PDF is produced. A log file gets created in the "PDF Output" folder,
containing a meaningless message such as the following:

"%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand:
C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C4C ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%"

The same Photoshop file will often print successfully when I next try
it (but sometimes won't).

What could be causing these failures and how can I prevent them?

Dave
