Oric computers >> Were there any other orics other than the 3 I know ?

by bob » Mon, 13 Sep 2004 23:58:24 GMT

Just doing a little research and wondered were there any other orics made
other than the standard 3

Oric 1
Oric Atmos
Oric IQ164 (Telestrat)

Are there any prototypes sitting out there of advanced Orics ? Just curious

regards

Ohhhhh never ever heard of that!!! Sounds like something to do with Minitel
? Any pictures of it ? Spec ? Did the people at Oric have any future plans
with any future models of the Oric ? Before they went bust.

Thanks for info.

There is a bulgarian Oric Clone "Pravetz"

http://bulgariancomputers.freeservers.com/pravetz-82/index_eng.html

Also a production licence was given to a Czech company (for producing the
Oric Nova 64)

I had traces of "oric nova" on the net where people from old czechoslovakia
, E.g. Bosniaetc..

Hiya Peacer,

czechoslovakia

Better information on the 'Nova' may be found on Jim Groom's Oric FAQ:
http://freespace.virgin.net/james.groom/oric/oricfaq.htm

A slight mention was made at altparty.org:
http://www.altparty.org/ ~altwiki/cgi-bin/wiki.cgi?action=Browse&id=_Oric_

Steve aparantly asked the NG about it on April 11th 2002:
From: Steve Marshall
Subject: ORIC NOVA 64
This is the only article in this thread
Newsgroups: comp.sys.oric
Date: 2002-04-11 14:13:05 PST
What was one of those ? Was it an Atmos with different ROM ?
Steve M

DBug did inform the NG on March 27th 2002: (Was Steve reading then? *grin*)

It's an _official_ clone of the Oric Atmos made
in Yogoslavia. From a contact I found on the net,
it looks exactly like the atmos, except that the
sticker on the top right corner has "Oric Nova
64" written on it, and that at the boot up, instead
of showing "37631 bytes free", it indicate it's
a 64kb machine :)
Dbug

That's about all I can find, apart from some Yugoslavian message boards that
I have no clue what they are saying.

Hiya Fabrice,

Did search for this one and found that there was an article on it on Ceo-mag
N?44 (4/2002).
Looks like I will have to order the CD one day soon - probably when I
resubscribe.

My understanding of the Microtan 65 computer is that its completely
different to the Oric line of computers ? As in you cant just take a program
from one and run it without modification on the other ? I would say the only
thing they have in common is that they came from the same company and share
the same CPU ? (I could be way off on the last two statements!!!!)

The BASIC is similar but the Oric has more commands, or course.

There were a few other Tangerine designed machines like the Tangerine
iger - see 'The Story So Far ... ... ' for details of this and the Prestel
terminal thingy.

All are relevant to the Oric IMHO, being in the same 'family' of computers.

Steve, Thanks for the info but I would say the link between them being in
the same family is more like the link between the Commodore64 and the Amiga
?
of course as usual I may be way off! :)

Well rather than having a technical similarity I'm referring to the
computers being designed by the same firm/ same people. These are Tangerine
computers though Oric became a company with it's own name.
