Oric computers >> Going to Scotland soon

by Euphoric » Sat, 02 Jul 2005 02:26:20 GMT

I'm going to accompany my wife to a conference she will attend in Glascow around
the 14th of July...
So, it's a good occasion to visit Scotland with our two daughters... (of course
they want to see Nessy)
But it seems both the "bed&breakfast" and the hotels are damn expensive there...
Does anyone know a good plan, I mean, much cheaper that those 100 sterling
pounds per night for a 2+2 family ?

Cheers,

Fabrice

Look more out of town. The touristy places are expensive but if you get into
the areas that aren't so posh you should find cheaper B&B. That said ?00
for four people doesn't sound too extreme.

Hiya Fabrice,

Excellent news my friend. How long will you be visiting there for?
BTW, Nessie only makes an appearance for drunk Scotsmen - this is a well
documented fact.

As for accomodation, I wish I could be of help. Truth be told, I am not that
experienced in holiday accomodation pricing. Never had to of course back
home. Always had my own place, family, and friends to stay at.
Next April we plan visiting Scotland for 3 weeks, and will be staying in
B&B's etc. Still yet to work out the budget for that, but at least there
will be only the two of us.
Please let us know how you get on.

BTW, when you are in Glasgow, I will be in Chicago! :)

Mmmmh.... in France that level of cost (around 150 euros) is reserved to luxury
hotels...

Thanks for the URL, Steve...
Glascow is not a place we plan to visit, but that's where the conference is.
We will try to visit the lochs and the Highlands...

Cheers,

Hello Peter, we will be visiting from the 14th to the 20th...

Don't worry, we know that :-)
(and as we don't intend to be drunk, there will be few chances we see Nessie...)

Cheers,

Fabrice

is.

A wise choice !

You could perhaps try staying on one of the towns outside of Glasgow. Places
like Linlithgo are on the route to Edinburgh (actually it is nearer
Edinburgh which is why it springs to mind as that's where I lived). People
commute back and forth between Edinburgh and Glasgow so there are plenty of
trains and the M8 to travel down.

It's probably most expensive at this time of year. Later on when it isn't so
busy it gets cheaper.
You could come the other way and visit the Lake District which is like a
compact version of the Scottish loch areas but with a few more places to eat
etc. More civilisation here because we didn't have the Highland clearances
to contend with !

Why don't you try motels?... I find they're great for families as they
do family rooms 2+2 and you can opt in or out of breakfast and the room
is normally under 50 quid.

I'm holidaying way way North in August in Wester Ross 2+2, and on the
way will be stopping off at Inverness on the way up, and Fort William,
on the way down.

Premier Travel Inn

If you're quick, 'Inverness East' might still be available for you on
those dates; and...

Travelodge

Travelodge tend to have slightly better facilities, but the rooms are
the same:
