Oric computers >> Further IJK and PASE Notes

If the PASE interface requires Bit 6 or 7 being set to read back the
joystick position, then it stands to reason that whilst it affects
Chipsounds, it should not effect Sample Music on the Oric, since B0-3 will
only ever be written!

I am also currently in the process of working out how to detect the PASE
interface. Whilst this device does mess up the sound, it is by far the most
simple and common joystick interface for the Oric, and should be supported
(Even if it is neccesary to Disable the sound)

Whilst we should be able to detect a joystick interface (IJK or PASE)
plugged in automatically, i think it is not possible to detect the presence
of the joysticks plugged in?
However, this is no major problem. I would love to get to the stage of being
able to ask the player to press fire to start a game, then the code would
instantly know...
1) what interface
2) what joystick port or what key configuration to use

If anyone has the PASE interface and knows a way of automatically detecting
that device then post here!!

That's right, Jon, but beware it will effect PSG register selection...
I forget this when writing first version of midi player for the double-PSG Oric;
bits 4-7 must be 0 when selecting a register otherwise the PSG thinks he isn't
addressed...

Right, I haven't seen any difference (except of course if a direction or a
button is pressed)

What about detecting IJK first, and then if it's not an IJK interface *and* if a
bit of the parallel port is driven, then it's a PASE ?
(by driven, I mean: reading IRA doesn't reflect the value that has been written
to ORA)

Cheers,

Sure, but i have no easy way of finding out for sure.
I just booted up both my atmos's and found them both broken.
Atmos 1 didn't boot
Atmos 2 booted, but some intrinsic keys like Return and DEL do not work,
probably bad kbd connector

So if you have a pase interface Fabrice, could you try it yourself?

Don't worry mate, managed to work out that my rather lashy switch for Sync
to tape in was the wrong way round, so a quick switch and one Oric Atmos
works.
I also still have two Oric1's which work so i'm happy.
