Mac storage hardware >> Toast fails to verify

by danspam » Wed, 12 Apr 2006 02:40:56 GMT

So I am trying to archive some data onto DVD-Rs using Toast 6 (and OS
10.4.6). Each time, using different data files, the burn appearsto go
ok, but the DVD fails to verify with a message "sector130976 is
unreadable."

If I had different sectors unreadable, I would assume a poor batch of
DVDs. But it's the same sector each time (or almost the same, I have
also had 130992 shown as unreadable). This makes me think it's actually
an issue with Toast reading the disks and not an actual problem on the
disks.

Has anyone come across this?

A very quick chck of a few files shows they are readable. I don't know
what method I could use to inspect the relevant sector and neighbouring
ones to see what file they belong to.

Mac storage hardware >> Toast fails to verify

by Greg Buchner » Wed, 12 Apr 2006 04:14:57 GMT

In article <1hdmzsk.hkbos31kn503aN% XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

I did with a Lite-On CD-RW drive, well, almost. At one point, every
disk was failing to be read within a ~1024 block range. This was with
three different types of CD-R's and two different types of CD-RW's.
Replaced the drive and problem went away.

1. %CRYPTO-4-RECVD_PKT_MAC_ERR: decrypt: mac verify failed

I am getting %CRYPTO-4-RECVD_PKT_MAC_ERR: decrypt: mac verify failed for
connection id=2056

on a new router-to-router VPN. I can't work out what it is trying to do.
Cisco's web site gives:

CRYPTO-4-RECVD_PKT_MAC_ERR : decrypt: mac verify failed for connection
id=[dec]
Explanation The MAC verify processing failed. This may be caused by
the use of the wrong key by either party during the MAC calculations.
This activity could be considered a hostile event.
Recommended Action Contact the peer administrator.

Which sounds OK but I have set up both ends of the link and traffic is
passing. The isakmp keys are preshared and correct. The security
associations for isakmp and ipsec look to be correct as well. I just get
this occasional message on one router only.

3. Verify volume failed with error Could not unmount disk

I have an external firewire drive that is acting up. Disk Utility
reports:

I also can't erase it (same error).

Can anyone suggest some fsck magic or another approach?

Thanks.

5. Entourage fails to connect to exchange server "Authorization Failed"

I've seen this a few times and tried a few fixes to no avail.

Open Entourage and get
"The server for account "(Our Business Account Name)" returned the error
"authorization failed." Your username/password or security setting may be
incorrect. Would you like to try reentering your password?"

If click yes and try to re-enter password or user name. Fails.

If click no, I can go to account settings, open account, close account
(making no changes to account settings). Entourage connects to Exchange
server.

I tried adding Entourage to Firewall "Allow" list as below from previous
post. No result.

"MacFixIt reader "Richard S." reports a solution for the continuous loop
issue caused by Entourage:
"A fix that works for me every time I upgrade MS Office 2008 for the
Keychain problem when clicking "Always Allow" does not cure the problem is
as follows:
1. go to System Preferences.
2. Click on Security.
3. Click on Firewall.
4. If you have set access for specific programs, checked, and Entourage is
one of them, click on minus sign and delete Entourage.
5. Click on the plus sign and go into Finder, Applications, MS Office 2008,
add Entourage back.
6. I find I have to restart Leopard before the change takes place.
Afterwards, no more prompting from Keychain.
Works every time!"

I have the same problem on 2 different Macs.
Went through a few steps with Microsoft support including re-building
Keychain with Keychain First Aid.

7. Python framework installation: test_macostools failed failed

Hello. I hope this is the right place for my question. It's about
python, but it is OS X specific, and in python forums noone could help
me yet. I tried to do a Python 2.3.4 framework installation on my Mac OS
X 10.3.5. I configured as described in the ReadMe:

./configure --enable-framework

But on make test, one test failed:

test test_macostools failed -- Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/Users/sven/Downloads/Python-2.3.4/Lib/test/test_macostools.py",
line 78, in test_mkalias_relative
    macostools.mkalias(test_support.TESTFN, TESTFN2, sys.prefix)
  File "/Users/sven/Downloads/Python-2.3.4/Lib/plat-mac/macostools.py",
line 39, in mkalias
    relativefsr = File.FSRef(relative)
Error: (-43, 'File not found')

Here is the content of the files mentioned in the error notification:

/Users/sven/Downloads/Python-2.3.4/Lib/test/test_macostools.py: (see
line 78)

73    def test_mkalias_relative(self):
74 try:
75 os.unlink(TESTFN2)
76 except:
77 pass
78 macostools.mkalias(test_support.TESTFN, TESTFN2, sys.prefix)
79 fss, _, _ = Carbon.File.ResolveAliasFile(TESTFN2, 0)
80        self.assertEqual(fss.as_pathname(),
os.path.realpath(test_support.TESTFN))

/Users/sven/Downloads/Python-2.3.4/Lib/plat-mac/macostools.py: (see line
39)

27 # Not guaranteed to be correct or stay correct (Apple doesn't tell
you
28 # how to do this), but it seems to work.
29 #
30 def mkalias(src, dst, relative=None):
31 """Create a finder alias"""
32 srcfsr = File.FSRef(src)
33 # The next line will fail under unix-Python if the destination
34 # doesn't exist yet. We should change this code to be
fsref-based.
35 dstdir, dstname = os.path.split(dst)
36 if not dstdir: dstdir = os.curdir
37 dstdirfsr = File.FSRef(dstdir)
38 if relative:
39 relativefsr = File.FSRef(relative)

I have no idea how to fix this. Does the comment "The next line will
fail under unix-Python if the destination doesn't exist yet"? mean that
I have ro create some directory first? Which one?

If I do a ./configure without the --enable-framework option, no tests
fail. Can you help me?

Thanks, Sven
