Mac storage hardware >> Writing Cds and CDWR

HI Everyone,

I am recently the proud owner of a Power PC G5. I am new to this
technology (and new to a newsgroup as well!!)

Anyway I am trying to figure out how to make a CDRW disc on my combi
drive. I managed to get a file onto thhe disc but it was then declared
full and read only. I erased the disc (having discovered this site and
the append facility in burn) but now it sees the disc as read only and
it doesn't appear on my desktop.

What I would like to do is just drop files onto the CDWR so they can
also be read on a Dos machine. I am told the Mac is easy to use - but
I am lost at the minute.

Does Anyone have any ideas?

I am using an eMac with system 10.4.1 ------ I have burned to CDs but
nothing shows up on them. The CD/DVD drive whirs away. Disk Utility
(v. 10.5.6) says that it is burning a CD. When it's finished the CD
is empty and I have no access to it. Since there is plenty of space
on the 3 CDs I've tried to burn things to I would like to know if
there is a way to make them accept writing. --------Thank you for
helping me with this.

6. can't write a blank CD

Well, it seems I only come here when I have a problem. Am not filled with
knowledge to share with others, only questions. Sorry about that.

The problem - my wife's PPC G3 ibook, sys 10.2.8 no longer wants to deal with
blank CDs. The sys pref is to open the finder when a blank CD is inserted. I
expect to see an icon representing the blank CD, when I insert one.

Instead, the drive whirrs merrily away, and soon it stops, the disc is
ejected, and an err message comes up on the screen, saying "Burning the disc
cannot proceed because the startup disc is full. (error code -34)

I tried having the computer open the disc utility, instead - and the
description of the disc is that it is read-only, with 0.0 bytes available. I
tried 2 different disks with the same results.

I don't understand. What is wrong?

Thank you for your time.

I will find a way or make one.

8. OSX Write CD and Read on PC

My daughter has a G4 running OSX (10.2?) and when she burns a CD with
JPG's then on my PC (XP) I can see the folder name, but nothing in it.

I have done a bit of searching and it sounds like Toast can clearly do
it (which she doesn't have) but it also sounds like under some
circumstances it will work.

Would appreciate any advice. I know a lot about PC's and some about
Mac's, but the programming I did on Mac's was a number of years ago.

Thanks.
