Mac storage hardware >> trouble formatting new LaCie Porsche 160G firewire hard drive
by swebsurf » Mon, 11 Jul 2005 07:35:40 GMT
Hi,
I believe I'm following the instructions properly when trying to format
my new LaCie firewire drive, but it is not showing up in the list of
available drives in the Disk Utilities application. It is, however,
showing up in the System Profiler utility. I'm running under Mac OS X
10.4.1.
thanks,
Scott

Hi,
First excuse me if this is not the correct place to post this and
please tell me where it would be better, thanks.
I have a Mac Mini and bought a Lacie 250Gb USB 2.0 Drive. I had no
problem with it, until I upgraded my Panther to Tiger. Since then, I
had problems making the mac detect the hard drive. I had to connect
and disconnect, reboot, leave the mac unplugged for 15min and
reconnect, connecto to different usb port, etc... until when it manages
to detect the drive randomly every time. I decided to turn back to
Panther. I still have problems detecting the drive, but now, when it
finally appears in Finder, when i try to browse any of it foulders
Finder simply hangs and I cant continue using it. Even if I a force
Finder to restart, it stays like that. The strange thing is that the
rest of programs can still acces the drive. I can play all my iTunes
library which is stored in the LaCie drive. I even have a torrent
which is being stored in the external drive which keeps downloading
without problem.
ny one has any idea? s there a way to effectively kill and
restart finder? hould I use a different program to browse my drive
rather than Finder?
By the way, I have 256Ram and the external drive works without any
problem in my Windows box.
Thank you very much for any help or advice any of you could give me.
Thanks

I replaced the original 30Gig hard disk on my iBook G4 with a 40Gig,
same manufacturer Toshiba, same drive type. I believe I completed the
hardware replacement properly but I have not been able to start the OS
installation.
My original CD (Mac OS X install CD 1) when inserted shows a static
apple and nothing happens.
What would anyone recommend to do next.
Thanks in advance.
