hardware >> seeking hard to find motherboard (for fsx and other purposes)

by markm75 » Fri, 12 Sep 2008 09:34:19 GMT

I currently own a P5Nt deluxe by asus.. i'm searching for a different
motherboard, hopefully one by asus, but not necessarily.. i have some
stiff requirements and these are making it hard to meet the goal..

I need to be able to support two graphics boards in non-sli or non-
crossfire mode, so whether it supports sli or crossfire doesnt matter,
though i'd like to go from a 4850 single slot to 4870 dual slot.. i
just ordered the 4850s.. but i'm thinking the 4870 would be a better
bet (the whole FSX thing).. i'm thinking they'd be better than the
9800GTX, but maybe not the gx2(cant recall the exact name here) etc..

But back to the topic...

I need a board that can take two dual pciex16 2.0 graphic boards that
are dual slot.. also have a pciex4 slot for my raid card, then ontop
of this, also be able to fit one pciex1 (asus xonar audio card) and
one other pci video capture board (and even more ideally, one more
available pciex1 slot)

So :

Pciex16 v2.0 x2 (dual slot)
Pciex4 (1 slot)
Pciex1 (1 slot)
PCI (1 slot)

Essentially to here, this amounts to the equivalent of 7 slots in
itself..

then as a bonus, yet another pciex1, but this is reaching.

It also has to take 1066 ram and fsb max of 1333 and take 45nm q9650
3.0ghz cpu..

I'm having a hard time finding this match, so i could in fact go dual
slot on graphics.. at least, keeping the price at say $250 or less..

Onboard sata only needs to have about 6 on average, though i could get
away with 4 too, plus an esata.

A coax audio out is desirable, though i think the xonar hdav1.3 in
addtion to hdmi does coax out, but i could be wrong.

Any one know of one offhand :)

Cheers

I should add, i did find this maximum extreme board from asus for $349
that just might work, i'm skeptical on the top pciex1 slot, whether it
could handle the xonar hdmi1.3 card or not, its really close to that
cooling block:

The price was also a bit steep

1. hard drive reliability for archival purposes

I work in a library where a lot of material has been stored to cds. The
director wants to find a medium with greater longevity and I have suggested
using hard drives; materials could be saved on duplicate hard drives and the
hard drives stored. In this regard:

1. He would like to see third party assessments of hard drive reliability
in general.

2. He would also like information on whether the platters themselves
deteriorate physically over time.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

3. Seeking Adventure - Help Me Find It!

Friends:

Back in the day (and I'm old enough to say that accurately and
meaningfully), I loved the adventure genre. I've moved away from it in
the past five years or so, largely because high-quality releases were
in short supply. It seems, though, that the adventure genre is making a
good comeback, and so I thought I would treat myself to some of the
best old and new that this type of game has to offer.

Already on my list are some of the aknowledged "classics," but I would
like your list of top games released in the past five to six years or
so, with a particular emphasis on games released within the past two
years, that are fun and high-quality. (Good stories are assumed to be a
must.)

I'm planning to play through The Longest Journey, Siberia and its
sequel, and possibly the third Gabriel Knight game. (Is there a modern
three-pack that contains all three? I'd love to play one and two again,
come to think of it.)

My first adventure game as such was Zork I on my Commodore 64. So I go
back a long way with this genre, and I'm looking forward to exploring
modern offerings. I'll say that I have an extremely soft spot for
horror-themed games, but any good game with exceptional production
values, characters and story will do. :)
Thank you for your help,

Brian

4. New Motherboard & Old Hard Drives

5. New motherboard, old hard disk with XP installed

I have a 80GB Seagate hard disk (ST380011A), that I was using with a
motherboard for long. it has two partitions: 8GB and the rest. The 8GB
has OS

I got a new Abit IS-10 mobo, with AwardBIOS (v6.0). It does recognize
the harddisk as 80GB, LBA, but it fails to load the OS. It just hangs
on "Verifying DMI Pool data....."

What can be the issue?

Thanks
