AS/400 >> Keyboard mapping in a Telnet session (CHGVTMAP and SETVTMAP)

by tech » Fri, 13 Feb 2004 17:33:49 GMT

I would like to change the keyboard mapping in a Telnet session.
In the initial program associated with a user profile due to connect
via telnet I try to change the F12 VT command from the default
(*ESCEQ) to F12.

As a result, in the telnet session, *ESCEQ doesn't work anymore, but
F12 does not work either.

What is wrong?

It's me, the DEC guy again. Thanks for all the responses and emails
with my newby installing software questions.

Well, I finally got TCP/IP installed, on my little network, and
running. I can ping the AS/400 from the laptop and the laptop from the
AS/400. No problem (now).

I have PowerTerm emulation software on the laptop. I want to open a
5250 telnet session to the AS/400. But I don't seem to have everything
on the AS/400 set up right. I've been reading about virtual devices
and workstations. I never get the logon screen on the laptop. I can
hear the AS/400 chug each time I try, but it's like an immediate
disconnect to the emulator.

What do I need to set up on the AS/400 side?

4. Client access Keyboard mapping / cut & paste problem

Using IBM Personal communications 5250 emulator version 5.5, on XP Pro, 4
mth old Dell.

I have mapped ctrl-c and ctrl-v to cut and paste respectively. Occasionally,
I do a lot of cut-paste operations between the 5250 session and excel.

This works OK for a while. But, after 10 minutes or so of cutting pasting
between excel/5250, suddenly the system emits an error beep when I mark the
text and try to use CTRL-C to copy. And, i cannot copy / paste until I close
the emulator, and restart.

This is very annoying...anyone know how to fix this one? By the way, the
same problem occurs on my desktop, and my laptop so I think this could be
related to the 5250 software.

6. Client Access keyboard Mapping Issue

I am trying to map a keyboard for a user that needs the enter key on
the numeric key pad to be the actual enter key and not the field exit
key. If the num luck key is not in use the keyboard mapping works,
but if the user turns on the num lock to use the numeric key pad the
enter key is not working as an enter key. Any suggestions on
correcting this issue for the user.
