2. New PC for CAD user, ?50 ($1200)
Hi, I am looking for a PC (base unit only, other components already have) for a CAD user for around the 50 ($1200) mark. Are there any pre-requisites I should be specifying? I was thinking of the following minimum specification: - Athlon Dual Core processor (I understand that AutoCad can make use of multiprocessors, but these are expensive, but a multicore single processor may be beneficial) - 1Gb RAM (do I need more) - 200Gb SATA Hard Drive (he also does a lot of video editing and DVD extracting) - DVD rewriter Software used: - AutoCad - Sketchup - 3D Studio Max - Solid Works - Adobe Photoshop I am not sure how effective high end graphics will be. On the one hand, in the past, companies like AutoCad could not take advantage of high end graphics because it required specific optimisation for particular hardware. Is this still true, or can AutoCad make use of it because its all routed through Direct X? Is there any particular feature I should also be expecting in the machine? I.e. should I go Intel for CPU because AutoCad optimises for this? Thanx AMO
