networking_sharing >> Keep losing Internet Explorer connection

I have a new Gateway MT3418 notebook with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
This notebook has an internal wireless adapter.

I have gone through all of the steps to get wireless connectivity to the
internet via my home network cable modem and wireless router. All parameters
are set up correctly, and I am able to connect either through an Ethernet
cable, or wirelessly.

Both methods work, but there is still a problem. After being online with the
internet wirelessly for a while (using Internet Explorer as my browser),
Internet Explorer will sometimes (but not always) issue an error message
saying "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". If I then check the
wireless icon at the bottom right-hand edge of the screen, I am told that
there is a wireless connection to my home network and the signal strength is
excellent. My notebook is 4 feet from the modem and router.

The only way I have found to get back online wirelessly is to reboot.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

2 possibilities that I can thing of:
1) Disable IPv6
2) Disable the DHCP Broadcast flag in Vista

Thank you very much. I'll give those items a try.

1. Internet Explorer Connection Options Keep Resetting to "Never Dial a Connection"

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 installed. I'm not
sure how or why this happened but lately, I have noticed that, whenever I
sign off my connection and later restart it, Tools-->Internet
Options-->Connections is always set to "Never dial a connection". This
option prevents me from either connecting to the internet or downloading any
new e-mail until I change it to either "Dial whenever a network connection
is not present" or "Always dial my default connection". Is there any way I
can permanently set my connections to one of these two options? Thanks for
any advice.

3. Keep on Losing Wireless Internet Connection

I have a Cisco wireless router, and my broadband provider is BeThere.

I use a Sony Vaio laptop to connect to the wireless router. It has
Windows Vista Home Premium installed.

Signal strength is excellent, and the laptop is often only 2 metres
from the router.

However, I often cannot see the wireless network that I use. Unless I
refresh the devices list a few times.

Other times, I can connect and use the Internet, but after a few
minutes my connection status changes to "local only". Sometimes it
will reconnect again on its own and give me internet access.
Sometimes I need to reconnect manually.

How can I make the connection more stable? If I use a cable to
connect to the router everything works fine.

Since having Tiscali fit a new box two days ago ( this serves TV, Broadband

wireless connection and Tiscali say it is not their problem. They say it is
either a new network card needed or it is a software problem. I am very
sceptical of all this as all was well until they arrived. Does anyone know
how I can prove it is not my computer at fault which is what Tiscali are

I running 2003 SBS network with one main domain controller/exchange server
and 10 desktops. We have firewall provided by our ISP and that acting as a
DHCP server. However, network computers had problems connecting to a domain,
so wee added dns record manually to each desktop. Ie noticed that the
main server keeps losing internet connection every now and then and all the
computers with manual dns record as well. However, we have tried to work this
problem around by manually adding the gateway as well, but the problem
If you take those records and leave the computers with dhcp settings
internet will work, but eventually outlook will fail due to not being able to
retrieve files from exchange and itl take long long time to load users
