While I don't have the initial release of Halo for Windows, I do have Halo:
Combat Evolved for Windows. It runs VERY well in Vista. In fact, the
graphics performance is MUCH smoother and faster under Vista than it was under
XP.

Hi, mine too, looks fabulous on my 24" widescreen after I found out how to
put vidmode into the exe. Even puts itself into 'games'.

Halo CE runs great on Vista Home Premium, which is more than I can say for
CoD2 or BF2. Get your act together Microsoft!!

CoD2 and BF2 are titles put out by Activision and EA, not Microsoft. Windows
Vista appcompat work did include both of these titles along with many
others, but if the publisher issues a new patch then it is pretty much up to
them to make sure it continues to work on the OS.

BF2 has worked fine for me on Vista since the Beta versions. Loaded maps a
hell of a lot faster than XP did too.

CoD2 works fine on my Vista HPE system. Have no idea what troubles you are
having.

You'd think a Game produced under Microsoft would, um, work with Microsoft
O/S's...

It installed on Vista X64 OK but keeps freezing. I have 2 EVGA 8800 Ultras
in SLI and the F/R's are horrable. I did finnaly get it to run OK, just OK
after setting my SLI to One GPU in nVidia's Control Panel. This means that
One Card is used for video and the other is used for its resorces. Still get
bad F/R's and have to turn off Antialaising just to get that. I average maybe
15fps on a good Day, and that's not including sloppy Frame rendering,
something that has to do with the Game itself. The video Card only uses the
Data its given. Bad Data to the Card means bad F/R's and lousy Picture as
well.
I hear it's because of my video Card choice but I don't buy it. I think it
has to do with bad drivers on the Games part. They Code these Games to work
with minimal Systems and leave the more cutting Edge systems like SLI to the
Dogs.
I imagine if I had a Dell or Gateway with bare minimums the Game would rock
and the F/R's would beat my Monster Rig 9 ways to Sunday.
It's all about the consumer, and consumers aren't using SLI.
Untill SLI and 64bit technology is a consumer norm, forget support...

Trust me, it's not my Rig. You can see what I'm running here

Actually it is your rig, your rig is really new trying to run a game that's
"really old". downgrade your system to a single core with a pre-x1000 series
ATi video card and the game should run great.

Can't even recall if SLI was around when Halo 1 came out. Ever think of
that?

Sorry KR, that was a bitter comment, mostly spawned of jelousy. Having an

on't worry Andy. I think we all get Bitter when it comes to all the PC crap.
Microsoft updates and expects everyone to keep up. It's a never ending story.
I assumed this was a Thread about Halo 2 for Vista only.
I'd say the original Halo would freze my new Rig up, LOL! I remember when I
first got A Rig with XP in it and tried to install Alien vs Predator. It blew
XP's MInd and I ended up having to re-format my new Computer over it.
I've read that Vista is supposed to be a little more old software friendly
than XP was, I doubt it, LOL!
What makes me mad and a little bitter as you can imagine is the fact that I
just got Halo 2 and it's for Vista only. Doesn't that mean if you have Vista
it should work?
Trust me, if I was trying to run the original Halo in Vista I'd just be
thankful it didn't mess up the system to the point I'd have to do a
re-install.
But to buy something that's supposed to run on a O/S you have and it doesn't
is just beyond me.
It would be like buying a Game for the PS2, getting it Home just to find out
it's actualy for the X Box 360 but says PS2 on the Box. I know that's a
stretch but hey, it sounded good when it was in my Brain, LOL!
I did finally get it to ply but the Frames are still not of very good
quality. I get Pixel slashes going down the Screen when moving around like
the game is having a really hard Time keeping up. I know it's not the video
Cards because I Benchmarked everything and I'm getting very good Frame rates.
Maybe some Day everyone will be on the same Page. Well, I said that 15 Years
ago, LOL!

You must be new to PC gaming. MS developed the 360 for people like
you.

I'm not a console gamer, so I was not aware of this title until I heard
about it having been released as a port from the XBox. I only know it's
supposed to be a space sim/FPS hybrid (apparently you're able to run around
on the space stations you dock with in first person style), but not much
more. Since that sounds very interesting, I'd like to hear some opinions
from people who have played it, to determine if it's worth a look.
