games >> Any way to run Wolf3d in Vista?

by ZHN3ZWlkYQ » Fri, 21 Dec 2007 02:26:03 GMT

I've had the original Wolfenstein 3d for quite some time and recently noticed
that it will not run now that I have upgraded to Vista. Is this normal
operation or is there something I can change to get the program to work?

Give DOSBox a try. http://www.dosbox.com/

Can confirm that Wolf 3d is working fine here on Vista x64 using the above.

Yes, it works perfectly in all versions of Vista and all windows
operating systems if you use the DOSBox. The problem is, that most
people do not understand how to run Wolfenstein 3d and the DOSBox on
Vista. The only site that I have ever found, and it took a lot of
finding!!! that really explains this well is 'Bulletsoftware.com for PC
Games and Software' ( http://www.bulletsoftware.com ) the exact link is
'Shooters, Shooter PC Games at Bulletsoftware.com'

Having read the page at Bulletsoftware.com, to my amazement, I got
wolfenstein 3d running on Vista and I can see that you could run many
DOS games in the same way. But without the valuable information on that
site, I could never have done it.

So, yes, wolfenstein 3d runs perfectly on Vista. Thank you DOSBox at
'DOSBox, a x86 emulator with DOS' ( http://www.dosbox.com ) and thank you
'Shooters, Shooter PC Games at Bulletsoftware.com'
( http://www.bulletsoftware.com/page/shooter.html ) for explaining how to
run wolfenstein 3d on Vista and on the DOSBox.

I thought I'd post this because there are so many wrong answers out
there and it took me so long to find the right ones. Hope this helps!

4. Different ways to run the 'Repair' process

When you boot the box from the setup CD with the intention
of running a 'Repair' . After setup loads files ...3 selections
appear
- setup 2000
- repair 2000
- quit setup

Choosing the 'repair 2000 ' option here is what i would term
the - '1st repair option' - But -
If you choose 'setup 2000' ..accept the EULA..then you are
led to a screen where the options are

- Repair the selected Win 2000 installation
- Continue installing a fresh copy of Win2000 without repairing

So - there seem to be 2 different ways to run the Repair
process - and the repair process followed seems quite
different - depending on whether you choose the first 'Repair'
option offered after booting from the Setup CD - Or - you
ignore that first offer and choose 'Continue' and then accept
the 2nd offer to 'Repair'

If you choose the first repair option you will NOT be asked
for the Emergency Repair Disk and the Process seems to
be much LONGER . more seems to be being done.

If you choose the 2nd repair option - you are asked for the
Emergency Repair Disk - and the repair process continues
on - offering options like 'manual' or 'fast repair' - AND
appears to be a much Quicker and 'lighter' process.

What is going on ? Is the 1st Repair a more thorough repair
Is the first repair checking more files ? or what ?

Thanks for any info or any suggestions where the answer may
be found .
