1. setups not working properly
i recently installed windows XP on my laptop, but i have a problem running
game setups.
this is mostly a problem with online game setups.(mmorpg games)
the setups are good, i know because they work properly on other computers.
but on my laptop they have several problems.
1:they don't show an icon
2:they load very slow
3:they take a lot of resources
specs: 2x1.46ghz proccesor(intel dual core)
1GB ram
windows XP proffesional.
the setups work fine on my other computer:
1x2ghz proccesor
512MB ram
windows XP proffesional
i can't confirm for all setups, but this problem occurred with setups from
the following type:
standalone MSI setups(MSI setup file, launched by a self-extracting .exe
setup archive)
inno setup compiler setups(setups made with inno setup compiler)
the setups with problems are over 500MB in size, and it doesn't matter if
they where made on my laptop, or downloaded.(CAN'T BE A DOWNLOAD ERROR)
the setups still work, they just are really slow(as in, 20 times as slow as
they should be)
anyone got any idea for a fix?
2. Fable text not working properly
3. USB gamepads not working properly
I'm having this problem so I hope anyone can help me that is, when I try to
use any USB controller that doesn't come with its own drivers the gamepad
doesnt work properly. Windows sees the pad and it appears in the control
panel, but when trying to see how it works in the gamepad configuration, as
soon as I move the directional pad it recognises two movements and then it
freezes and can't use it anymore. However I tried a logitech controller and
it works fine when installed their own drivers.
So what can I do, is there any fix for this? tia!
4. Vista/MS Works--does not work properly - Windows Vista
5. Office not working properly due to lack of SndRec32.exe in Vista
I've tolerated the problems with Vista because I understand it's a rework of
an OS and the transition is much smoother than when 95 came out. But when
MS's own products are rendered incompatible, it's kind of the the straw
breaking the camel's back.
So here's my problem. I've looked all over and even talked to MS Office tech
support but even they don't have a fix. In XP, Word 2003/2007 can embed other
file types directly in the document. If it's known, it's displayed and if
not, it's placed in a "package." Office uses SndRec32.exe to handle wav files
and does so transparently. However, the replacement of SndRec32 with
SoundRecorder in Vista has--this is the only way I can express my feelings
towards this---completely F'd things up. If I take a document created using
Word in an XP environment and open it under Vista, Vista forces Word to open
up WMP to play embedded wav objects. I can't edit the files either since the
"best" version of Vista is restricted to wma. I found a semi-successful
workaround which is copying SndRec32 from XP and associating it in Vista. The
problem with that is Word still treats it as a foreign app and places the
object in a package. Word is clearly able to handle wav files directly since
it does so in XP. All the elements are available, file associations are
correct. So then, what is preventing Word from handling the objects as it
does in XP? Is it a registry issue? If anyone knows how to fix this, everyone
at my university's foreign language dept. would be forever grateful.
