I can install games, but when attempting to open and use them, I get an Error

months ago may have caused this problem and I need to get it fixed... I went
on the Update site and downloaded all missed updates, but it still doesn't
work. This all began about 1 year ago. Any idea how to get this fixed?

5. Vista Freezes before installation can begin
I started installing Vista RC1. After decompressing files, it goes to a black
screen where a green status bar loads. After a few seconds the status bar
freezes and it appearsa s though the computer locks up.
I tried booting in safe mode. It made it into installation but then said it
couldn't do it in safe mode. So I tried booting with the driver enforcement
disabled. That gave me a blue screen that I wasn't able to catch before
rebooting. I removed all the devices that were attached to the computer and
tried starting setup again. I got another blue screen, this time I cought
that it said it was a page_fault of some kind, but didn't get where. Finally,
I tried booting again, and this time, I got not blue screen, but instead the
system locked up again, but after the loading screen went away. The system
busy light is cought on too.
Not too sure what to make of any of it.
Any ideas?

WE have big problems in installing the video codec package for Vista so that
the Mpeg4 v1, 2 and 3 video codecs becomes available in our video analyzing

is a big challenge for us not beeing able to install the video codecs by
Microsoft giving support to the Mpeg4 video codecs.
Do somebody have an answer to this question?
