powerpoint >> SmartArt Graphics and Columns

Hi everyone,

I've downloaded a custom SmartArt Graphic, ie. one which isn't included out
of the box in Powerpoint 2007. I downloaded it from the following site:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/CT101636101033.aspx

...and it was installed automatically. I plan to pass on the powerpoint file
to another person and I wondered if they will have to also download the
graphic in order to be able to edit it. Will this be the case, or will the
SmartArt Graphic be somehow included in the powerpoint file when I email it
across?

Just one further question if that's okay: I'm using a text box which has 2
columns. Is it possible to insert a column break in Powerpoint like you can
do in Word?

Really appreciate any help.

I don't know the answer but would like to. If you'll create a simple one-slide
example and email it to me, I'll be happy to have a look.

Actually, let's make that a two-slide example. Put the smart art on the first
slide. Then copy it, go to a blank second slide and choose Paste, Special, as
PNG. That'll show me what it's supposed to look like, no matter what actually
happens to the actual smart art.

Two questions cost twice as much as one, but we're having a special today. Two
for the price of three, so fire away.

You can do this if it's a two-content placeholder. Ctrl+Enter will move you
from the first column to the second.

But with multi-column text boxes, I haven't found a way of forcing a column
break.

Thanks for replying,

I've emailed you a test file. Can you let me know the outcome?

The diagram is included with the PowerPoint Presentation. The person
receiving it will be able to view and edit it just like any other
diagram. They will not be able to insert it from the standard gallery
unless they download it from Office Online like you did.

This is what I was thinking -- couldn't remember for sure, though.

Thanks for posting this information, Adam.

And just to back that up, gwh has sent me a file that includes the new
smart art. It looks perfect in PPT (matches the bitmap image included
in the same presentation), and is editable, but other than copy/pasting
it to a new slide, there's no way to insert new ones of the same type.

Hi,

I think we covered that in the email, and I've also summarized the results in
another post here, so we should be good to go.

As to the column break problem, sigh. There's no way to insert a column break in
one of the new PPT 2007 multicolumn text boxes. You pretty much have to force the
issue by punching the Enter key enough times to force your text into the next
column.

That has a LOT of drawbacks, as I'm sure you know, but it's the best we have.

Version: 2008

Hi,
I have chosen a SmartArt Graphics slide format with 4 quadrants in a pie style. I have added text within each of the actual 4 quadrants and was able to "promote" (or add) a text box to the top/left hand side quadrant. When I attempt to "promote" or add text boxes to expand upon my quadrants the promote button does not highlight and therefore a text box does not appear. How can I promote in the other 3 quadrants of my pie? Hoping somebody can help me!
