powerpoint >> Auto advance to next slide after video has played

by Dennis Gaines » Mon, 17 May 2004 23:42:27 GMT

I have an inserted movie on a slide. I either want the
movie to go away after playing, or the slide to auto
advance to next slide after movie plays. Don't seem to
have any animation controls on the movie and don't know
how to get the slide to auto advance AFTER the movie has
played???

thanks,
Dennis

Go to Slide Show > Slide Transition and set the slide to transition
automatically after 0 seconds.

Thanks for feedback.

I tried this, but it just advances without playing the
content of the slide (movie).

(Movie is inserted as a WMP object in PPTXP)

I have noticed that you need to click unto the item you are changing
when you change the timings or options on a slide.

Try Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File.

Thanks for feedback!

Found out why I believe. Movie is an inserted Windows
Media Player object and doesn't look like you get to have
animated controls of such.

thanks,
Dennis

It is a .WMV file and PPTXP won't let you insert it that
way. I tried a regular .avi file and it worked fine. Did
figure a workaround though--just set the auto advance to
length of movie.

Thanks for input!

That's about all you can do. Once PowerPoint fires off the embedded object
(WMP) it takes no further notice of it nor pays any attention to if it is
playing or not. Just trundles merrily alongs its way.

Hello,

It sounds that, although there are workarounds, you would like this to be a
lot easier to do in PowerPoint.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions for how to
make this easier to do in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your feedback
(in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Is there any way to force the sound to finish playing completely before
PowerPoint will advance to the next slide. This includes disabling the

Thanks,

3. Can not advance to next slide after playing an embedded flash swf

4. Automatically Advance to Next Slide After Sound Plays

My students have made slide shows with pictures from their summer holiday.

We did not use the PowerPoint narration feature.

Each slide has a .wav file for narration inserted as an object on the slide.

So a four slide show has four slides with four .wav files, one on each.

Is there a way to set up the show so it advances to the next slide when the
narration ends?

Since the length of the .wavs vary, there's no way to set the animation to
be the same between each slide.

Thanks...
