powerpoint >> mpeg from compressor wont play audio in PPT

by a2l3aWUxNTc » Sat, 25 Jul 2009 04:25:01 GMT

I have exported video from Compressor as a mpeg2 but when I insert it into
PPT, it either won't play any audio at all, or it will play about the first 2
secs (which have no audio) and then when the person in video starts to speak,
the video freezes. FYI-when I play the mpeg2 in the MCI player on the PC, it
plays video and audio fine. Video is 29.97fps, full screen. I HAVE to figure
out a way to do this so these doctors can do their medical presentations...

I dont know if the PPT MVP's have experience creating videos, but I've
edited this video in FCP and since I cant export an mpeg2 out of FCP 5, I
have to use Compressor.

MPEG2 format is DVD format which has separate video and audio tracks and not
recognized by Poerpoint. See if the video software can render an .mpeg1 or
.wmv then test with PowerPoint.

But mpeg1 isn't for full screen is it?

Also--the mpeg2 is listed as an insertable file extension when you go to
insert a movie. And, if the mpeg2 will play both video and audio in the MCI
player, why wouldn't it play properly in Power Point?

Any video is based on the pixel of resolution it is rendered at. PowerPoint
can play any video to full screen - but if it was created for small playback
(say 320x480px) and it is scaled to full screen (say 1024x768px) it is going
to look very low quality.

What version of PPT are you using?

In PPT 2007 it shows .mpeg, .mpg, .mpe, .m1v, .m2v, .mod, .mp2 (different
than .mpg2), .mpv2 (again not an .mpg2), .mpv2 (not an .mp2), .mp2v (not an
.mpg2), and .mpa as valid movie file formats.

How do you know the movie is an .mpeg2?

I'm using 2003 but I have a client that is also using 2007...however let's
stick with the 2003 version for now.

I know its mpeg2 because I exported it out of Compressor (in Final Cut
Studio) as an mpeg2. I know my 2003 PPT will even take the .m2v extension as
well as the .mpg extension but I get no sound.

Render as a .wmv and insert that format. That will solve all the issues.

i,

I converted using Prism File Converter from m4v to wmv and avi which both
play in windows media player. But only the avi will play in my PowerPoint
2007 (saved as PPT 2003), and for the wmv I only get unclear large pixels,
but sound is ok. The avi file takes time to "load", the wmv file takes no
time. I know they are linked not embedded, but I'd like to use wmv file e.g.
since it has smaller file size.

What could be going wrong with my wmv file in my PowerPoint 2007?

Thanks James D.

Hello,

I created a slide show with numerous movie clips in PowerPoint Mac 2004. Most of the clips are either MPEG1 or MPEG2. They played just fine in Powerpoint 2004 but now that I've upgraded to 2008 they will not play. Can you help?

8. 2000 ppt mpeg not playing

I have a Compaq Presario with XP using office 2000 with
dual video card Radeon 9600(?). Also have same PC with std
video setup. On the std pc, I can insert a mpeg movie on
a slide, and all is ok. On the dual video, the movie is a
blank black box, and does not play - neither on the slide
view nor the slide show. Tell the movie to play, and the
hourglass comes on for one second, hard drive is accessed,
but nothing happens.
I can't find anything in Microsoft to help, and (of
course) you cannot get into tech support due to virus
problems. Anybody got a clue?
