powerpoint >> Smartart graphics in PPT 2007

Hi everyone,

I'm using Powerpoint 2007 and am using smartart graphics to insert a
hierarchy flowchart object. There are a number of different versions
available but I need one where there is the ability to insert a picture at
the top of the box and then have the person's name and title underneath the
image. I know that I can insert an image manually as a shape fill but this
inserts the image into the background of the entire box which isn't what I
want. Also I didn't want to have to do it manually as I need it to keep all
the updating functionality that smartart graphics have.

I wondered if someone could tell me if there were any addons that you can
buy to extend Powerpoint 2007 that would include one of these smartart
graphics?

Appreciate any advice.

I just answered you over on Experts Exchange. Here it is:

Unfortunately, MS hasn't done much in the way of making it easy for us to
create our own SmartArt graphics. You must edit the .GLOX file manually
(it's XML) or using VBA.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163470.aspx is an overview that
should get you started. I'm afraid much of it will be trial and error,
though there is example GLOX code to download on that page.
http://diagrams.loki3.com has additional GLOX files for download.

It can be tedious to fight with SmartArt creation, but it's also kind of
fun! I suggest that you label your diagrams carefully. I sent a friend one
to test, she did then forgot about it. Later she used it in an important
project, but nobody else had that particular diagram available! Oops. LOL!

There is a Picture Organization Chart SmartArt available on the Microsoft
Office Online website:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=smartart&av=TPL000
but it has the picture left of the text.

There are only a very few people up to now, who have the graphic design
skills well as XML knowledge to offer to create and sell new SmartArts. One
you might want to contact is Susanne Walter in Germany, www.pptx.de

Best regards,
Ute

Thanks to you both for the great leads.

1. SmartArt Graphic Content Placeholders in PPT 2007

Hello,

Is there a way to set Content Placeholders in SmartArt so that two lines of
text can appear one at at time? For example, I inserted the SmartArt graphic
"Chevron List" from the Process category. I then put an extra line of text
in one of the Content Placeholders (like two bullet points) but I cannot set
the lines of text to appear one at a one time (with separate mouse clicks).

I've tried this in many of the SmartArt graphic Content Placeholders with no
luck. Is there a way to do this or are the Content Placeholders fixed so
that no matter how many lines of text you add they must all appear at once?

Thank you.

Hi,

How to set a default SmartArt Template as Standard, e.g. I want all

5. PPT 2007: Trouble with PPT 2003 (?) graphics colors

I'm using PPT 2007, SP1, and am opening files that arrived on my desk as
.ppt. (It's unknown to me whether at one time in their lives they were ever
.pptx's or not, or whhether anything on the slides had a former PPT 2007 life
or not.)

When I open the files, certain graphics (very few of them, I might add, and
I look at literally hundreds/day) have the colors rendered incorrectly.
Those graphics always seem to be three-dimensional button-looking things,
with color gradients. Upon saving as .ppt, PPT 2007 gives me the common
warning about previous versions won't be able to edit the graphic, but they
will be able to edit the text.

If I were to open the original .ppt file on a PPT 2003 system, all colors
would be rendered correctly.

To fix the problem on PPT 2007, I had to go into color themes, and create a
new theme. By using the theme that was created automatically from the
template of the .ppt file, and searching for apporpriate accent colors, I was
able to get the graphics to render correctly in 2007. And from then on,
through .pptx and .ppt saves, the colors continued to render correctly.

What kind of graphic would cause such problems? Is it something that at one
time was created in PPT 2007 and copied into a PPT 2003 file? What might we
do to keep this from happening in the future - any instructions we can give
the folks who are creating the presentation files?

And finally, what's up with these "accent" colors in the PPT 2007 theme
colors? If you don't get in and edit one of the colors sets, you'd bnever
know they were there, would you?

Thanks.
