It's been a while since I asked a question. I have been working up my presentations now a different way. I use XP 2002. First off I am having problems making a pot. file. There is no pot. file to pick from just ppt. I work up the slide the way I want it and try to "save as" and all I can choose from is ppt. 2nd after I work up the slide the way I want it in Master View I pickle it or not pickle it and close out the Master Slide and the changes dont show up on the Normal View why? I did find out that I can insert a doc. file from insert from Outline into PP and PP seperates them into alot of slides. That's really cool
Saves me alot of time. Thanks for your time. Alice

There is no pot. file to pick from just ppt. I work up the slide the way I want it and
try to "save as" and all I can choose from is ppt.

In the Save As dialog, there's a list box labeled "Save as type"
The default choice is "Presentation (*.PPT)"
Click the downward-pointing arrowhead at the right of that and choose "Design Template
(*.POT)" instead.
Give it a name and click Save.

pickle it

Pickle? Gherkin-A, Mr. Dilworth will be pleased to hear it, but I'm afraid I don't know
what that means. ;-)

Try choosing Format, Slide Layout. In the task pane on the right, find the layout you
want. Click the downward arrowhead to the right of it and click "Reapply Layout"

Master View Slide and I dont like any of the slide layouts in the task pane.

Ah. Bad news, then: you can't add new slide layouts in PowerPoint.

I worked it up. Let me start by telling you what I want and then you tell me the
best way to work it up. I can make a presentation 6 different ways to come up
with the same ending results. What I want every week is a presentation for our
church every week which consists of 5 songs with 5 different backgrounds like
pictures or pretty templates with text on top. Only 2 or 3 rows of text no more.
It's about 100 slides in all. This sounds easy but it's been giving me fits. I
want the easiest way to do this. Thanks a lot for your time. Alice

Which version of PowerPoint do you have? While you can't add layouts, you can
create multiple masters and modify the existing layouts in each, as long as yo
have PowerPoint XP or higher.

Steve, Yes, I have 2002 XP. I just learned another new way last night to do it. I should write a book. But I can't seem to find the perfect combination yet. Can you tell me the difference between PP 2002 and 03? Thanks Alice

As far as masters go, there's no real difference between 2002 and 2003.

is it possible to have notes that only the speaker can view during a slide show...and not the audience?
i will be using an infocus machine and would like to have notes available for myself, but not that will project on the screen.

Yes, it is possible. You need a dual-monitor graphics card for this.

The following link might help:

Is it a candy mint? Is it breath mint? Why, you're BOTH right!

<g>

If you're running the presentation from a laptop, the graphics card pretty much
needs to be one that supports dual monitors (though I believe there are PC-card
graphics cards that add second monitor support).

With a desktop, you have a bit more flexibility.

Not really....see what slots you have open on your motherboard....and find a
legacy graphics card that will fit into it.
WinXP supports this. I currently use a dual monitor card and am thinking
about seeing if I can get three monitors to work....haven't got around to it
yet as I have no use for such a system.

As the speaker, you're the hero. As a motivational speaker, you should be
pretty good at this part. You don't want the ppt presentation to be any more
than the hero's faithful sidekick. QUIET faithful sidekick. The louder and
more hyperactive the presentation, the less attention the audience will pay to
you.

Templates don't help you with content. You'll need to develop that yourself.
The template of your choice will help to standardize your slides with a
compatible color scheme, a common background and font settings. You'll find
lots of templates at the following link page or you can learn to create your
own:

Someone told me you could use a web cam to do a presentation like a projector
on a wall. Is that true? If so, what kind of web cam do you need? Thanks...

I think they may have been pulling you leg. I do not know of any web cam
that offers projection capabilities.

While there are projectors that are rather small, but the basic technology
used to record images is very different than the technology to project them.

Too lazy to fire up the Mac and check, so I'll just ask if you can do either of:

- Insert Object and create from file, pick a PPT file

- Drag an existing PPT file icon onto a slide

Either works in the Windows version to embed a PPT into another PPT.

My problem:
I have a presentation the I have saved as a .pps file that will link

After I close my browser I am brought to the first presentation that I

Does anyone know how I can get around this problem, I need to return

Is there a quick way of doing this please? I need to merge two presentations
(ie to disperse the slides of one presentation in amongst the slides of the
other) but leave the slide masters unaffected.
One way (I think) is to, after saving all slides in one presentation, to
select all of the slides originating from the merged presentation and
re-applying their slide master from the design pane. But with a large
presentation, this is cumbersome and a fair bit of work.
Is there a quicker way?
