I'm using PPT 2007, SP1, and am opening files that arrived on my desk as
.ppt. (It's unknown to me whether at one time in their lives they were ever
.pptx's or not, or whhether anything on the slides had a former PPT 2007 life
or not.)

When I open the files, certain graphics (very few of them, I might add, and
I look at literally hundreds/day) have the colors rendered incorrectly.
Those graphics always seem to be three-dimensional button-looking things,
with color gradients. Upon saving as .ppt, PPT 2007 gives me the common
warning about previous versions won't be able to edit the graphic, but they
will be able to edit the text.

If I were to open the original .ppt file on a PPT 2003 system, all colors
would be rendered correctly.

To fix the problem on PPT 2007, I had to go into color themes, and create a
new theme. By using the theme that was created automatically from the
template of the .ppt file, and searching for apporpriate accent colors, I was
able to get the graphics to render correctly in 2007. And from then on,
through .pptx and .ppt saves, the colors continued to render correctly.

What kind of graphic would cause such problems? Is it something that at one
time was created in PPT 2007 and copied into a PPT 2003 file? What might we
do to keep this from happening in the future - any instructions we can give
the folks who are creating the presentation files?

And finally, what's up with these "accent" colors in the PPT 2007 theme
colors? If you don't get in and edit one of the colors sets, you'd bnever
know they were there, would you?

1. PPt 2007: Dealing with gradient colors compared to PPt 2003 

I'm starting to get comfortable with the new PPt 2007 way of creating 
gradients, but there is one thing I miss from the PPt 2003 process that I 
haven't found a way to duplicate in PPt 2007.  In PPt 2003 I could acquire 
the dark shade of a color by temporarily converting the gradient from 1-color 
to 2-color, clicking the dark color to put that color into the secondary 
color palette, and then either cancel or change back to one color.  Then I 
could use that acquired darker color for other uses or for duplicating that 
shading in cases where "format painter" was not an option.  In PPt 2007, not 
only can I not acquire the color of one of the gradient colors without 
writing down the RGB values, but I cannot simply dial-in a lighter or darker 
shade which, in my years of experience, is the most common use of a gradient. 
 Any feedback regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I've been sent a ppt presentation from a Windows user.   The
presentation includes a series of graphics -- newspaper cartoons in
black and white.  When I open the slides with the cartoons about half
of them open in negative format, i.e. black is swapped for white and
vice versa.

 When I send the presentation back to the Windows user he reads the
graphics in the normal positive manner.  And some of them are fine.

  Is this a known problem with some graphic images?  

Is there a filter or converter I need / can use to switch these
graphics from negative to positive?

5. "Followed Hyperlink" color doesn't change in PPT 2007, as in 2003 

After clicking on a hyperlink then returning to the slide with the hyperlink, 
the text doesn't change color as it does when running the presentation in 
PowerPoint 2003.  I have checked in 'Design-Colors-Create New Theme Colors', 
and the 'Followed Hyperlink" color shows the desired color.
During the presentation the text remains the original color after following 
the hyperlink and returning to the original slide.  However, when exiting the 
presentation, the text color is changed in the edit screen for that slide.
Is this a bug in PowerPoint 2007, or is there something I'm missing.

When I insert a graphic or paste a graphic into a PPT2007 slide, it looks 
fine in PPT, but when it is played back on a device using 97 PPT viewer, 
white rectangles appear. I can eliminate these rectangles by opening the PPT 
presentation in PPT 2000, selecting the grapic, choosing Format Picture, then 
the Web tab and finally deleting the alternative text in this window. I 
cannot the path to the alternative text associated with the graphic in 
PPT2007. How can I find and delete the alternative text associated with 
graphics?
