office >> BASIC PIE CHART IN SMARTART GRAPHICS

How do I make each section of the chart represent different percentages.

I am unable to resize the sections of the pie chart, which makes it unusable for me. I need to resize the sections by percents, so that each section represents a different percentage of the whole. Right now each section that is added represents a fraction of the whole - so that if there are 3 sections, then each section is 1/3 or 33.3%, and is there are 4 sections, each section is 1/4, or 25%, and so on.

Hi,

we need more information in order to help you. First of all, which
application are you using? Secondly, how do you proceed to create the pie
chart? My guess is that you are using a SmartArt graphic; the pie charts
generated by SmartArt are very nice, but they are meant to be used for
presentation purposes rather than as representations of proper numerical
data. If you want a real pie chart (in Word and PowerPoint), try using
Insert>Object, Microsoft Excel Chart instead; in Excel, simply use the chart
tab that's part of the Document Gallery.

It sounds like you are selecting only the labels without selecting the data
to be plotted. The size of pie slices, columns, etc. is determined by the
values being plotted, not by manual adjustment.

See the Help of whatever program you're using on the topic: Create a Chart

For future reference: Whenever you post it's a good idea to indicate not
only what program the problem pertains to but also what specific version of
that program. Charting, for example, can be done in Word & PowerPoint as
well as Excel. Also, in either of the three Charts can be created using the
Insert> Chart command or by way of Insert> Object> Microsoft Graph Chart
which results in a different process. Your message includes none of that
information.

Hi,

I am trying to generate a pie of pie chart and can't understand the logic behind how data is used. What I want to do quite simple:

a	25
b	159
b1	143
b2	16

I want to put and b in the big pie. the smaller pie should refer to b and has pieces b1 and b2.

If you have some idea how to do it, please let me know...

7. Help - can't add "promote" to add text box at SmartArt Graphics

Version: 2008
Processor: Intel

Hi,
I have chosen a SmartArt Graphics slide format with 4 quadrants in a pie style. I have added text within each of the actual 4 quadrants and was able to "promote" (or add) a text box to the top/left hand side quadrant. When I attempt to "promote" or add text boxes to expand upon my quadrants the promote button does not highlight and therefore a text box does not appear. How can I promote in the other 3 quadrants of my pie? Hoping somebody can help me!
Thanks,
Janine
