powerpoint >> Odd problem withe using indent on slides created in PowerPoint 2008

by shari.kubitz » Wed, 20 May 2009 01:24:29 GMT

I am a systems analyst and troubleshoot problems all the time, but
this has me baffled. The following behavior is not limited to one
machine (I believe both are running 10.4.11 and have all versions of
Office are fully updateg (11.5.4 with the OpenXML Converter 1.0.2).

It doesn't matter whether slides were added to an existing 2004
presentation or the presentation is newly created in Powerpoint 2008.
It also doesn't matter whether compatability mode is turned on whn
saving the Powerpoint file in 2008.

When a slide has a text box and you click the indent button on the
toolbar (whether the text box is selected or a paragraph of text, the
first line often remains but the next line appears to disappear
although you can sometimes see the text in the backgroun color with
one character to a line.

I would appreciate any ideas short of upgrading to 2008.,

Thanks so much.

1. PowerPoint 2008 corrupts slide sorter of all PowerPoint 2004 files

I am running a MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.1, 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

I like many of the new PowerPoint 2008 features, but once I have opened PP08 all of my PP04 files are corrupted (viewed as large text gibberish). I can quit all Office 2008 apps and then open PP04, but they remain corrupted. It is as if a different coding was established for the fonts in PP08.
Any suggestions as I use the slide sorter extensively.

Hi,

yesterday we had a talk here and the lecturer had prepared his talk on any PPT for Windows. Showing the PPT on PPT 2008 on a Mac was a complete desaster! The bugs showing up must all be well known - I had them with numerous PPTs I tried to open on Mac Powerpoint. What a piece of garbage - even after 7 updates... :-(

Problems in detail:

- most images are distorted (width/height ratio is wrong)
- some images do not show up at all
- after presenting some slides, hitting Enter will quickly cycle through the following slides rather than switching one slide further.

In the middle of the talk, we switched to PPT 2004, which was only slightly better (at least the last bug from the list above didn't appear).

Summary: PPT 2008 is simply unusable and the show yesterday was a complete anti-advertisement for the Mac. Maybe this is Microsoft's intention.

The Windows Powerpoint 2007 has an easy facility to create useable summary sheets containing multipls slides & associated notes (Publish | Create Handouts in Microsot Office Word | check "Notes next to slides"). I can find nothing like that in the latest Mac version. If anyone knows how to do this on a Mac, please let me know. Thanks much.
