powerpoint >> downsaving graphs in pptx to ppt

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Hello,

I am developing a powerpoint presentation for a client in 2008, that may need to be viewed in an earlier version. I have developed many bar charts for the powerpoint that contain simple fade animations. When I downsave from pptx to ppt, the charts are screwed up. Is there any way I can downsave and maintain the integrity of the charts? They don't necessarily need to be editable (in fact they could be flattened into a single image), but I would like to keep the animations in tact (for instance, the bars fade in and out separately).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

Use Insert Object and then choose Microsoft Graph objects. These are the
same in both the new and old versions.

Thanks.

From a perspective different that Jim's...

How much "older" are we talking about? The OXML Converters (free from
Mactopia) will enable the 2008 format to be used by all Mac versions that
run on OS X (beginning with v. X) and any PC versions Office 2000 or later.

Using the older graphics generator prevents the use of the enhancements
available in 2008. Of course they won't look quite as good in an older
version of PPt but they'll still retain their appearance in 2007/2008.

Hi Bob,

If you use the converter will animations on the converted graphs
continue to work? That was the main issue.

Well of course not, but you already knew that, dincha????

I'm afraid we big city types just aren't as sensitive as you Great Lakes
guys -- I didn't take "I would like..." as being indicative of the OP's
*main issue*. Had s/he written "I must", "I am required", "I need to", "It
is imperative that" or some such -- even "I would *really* like to" -- I'd
have kept my big mouth shut :-)

Getting the animations to work was the main issue here. Thanks anyways.

3. PPT to PPTX/PPSX conversion on MAC

Hi All,

I want to convert PPT files to PPTX / PPSX format on MAC through a C
program

On windows I could do this by using "PPCNVCOM.EXE -oice test.ppt
test.pptx"

But I could not find anything equivalent on MAC, the Open XML
converter (1.1.1) can just convert the other way (PPTX/SX to PPT/PPX)
but it does not recognize PPT format.

Is there any way to do this? Applescript??

5. Graph software embedded in PPT

As often becomes the case when I incorporate lot of charts in a PPT document using the Graph function, I come to a point where I am unable to change data or column/row names on the datasheet. In the past, I have solved the problem by deleting the preference file (graph plist), but this time, the replacement plist does not appear. I'm stuck. What can I do to restore datasheet editing capability?<br>

7. Getting graphs/charts *out* of PPT

Hoping someone may be able to help me...

A client sent me some graphs/charts that they created in PPT (so when
I double click in PPT it launches MS Graph)
Now they'd like me to use them in a printed newsletter, for which I'm
using Illustrator (could just as well be using InDesign if that would
help me...)
Problem is, the only way I been able to figure how to get them from
PPT to Illustrator is by simple copy and paste, and the graphs come
over all yucky and pixelated.
They print as if they were vector-based from PPT (completely scalable
and all that), so is there a way to get a vector version of these
charts into Illustrator?

I'm running PPT '98 on my machine (yes, we're *still* stuck in OS9
here...) but could gain access to a machine running PPT X if I need
to.

Any thoughts?
Anyone?
Thanks!!!

I heart MS Graph!!
