Hi: I can "replace font" in Powerpoint, which I assume is equivalent to the old "default font" -- except that it does not work in org charts. How can I change fonts that will work with org charts too?

The fonts used in Smart Art Graphics are controlled by the Document Themes.
If you select the object then use the Fonts: list in the Document Themes
section of the Formatting Palette (Toolbox) you can select from a wide
variety of coordinated combinations of fonts.

However, I'm seeing that Replace Fonts *does* work in Smart Art Org Charts
but it does not change the default font. IOW, if you insert a new Org Chart
after doing a Replace Fonts the new chart will still use the font dictated
by the Document Theme. AFAIK, you can't change the default font for Smart
Art in PPt 2008. You can also select any Smart Art object & change the font
just like any other Placeholder, text box or shape.

I don't know if this answers your question but I'm not really sure what your
question is. If you're having a specific problem please describe in detail
what you want to do, how you're going about it & what is/isn't happening
different from what you expect.

Thanks for this valuable information. I didn't know about Document Themes before -- I kept looking for "save as default font."

What I was trying to do was make a template for our (large) company's org charts. I picked a font (arial), a color style from SmartArt (Dark 1 Outline), and a style (Cartoon). Some groups have up to 10 pages of org charts. I am coming to the conclusion that there is no way to make a template for org charts, other than making one org chart on the first page and then always doing "insert duplicate slide" and working off that, instead of adding a new page. Thanks to Document Themes, I can at least keep the font I want, but each time I add a new page and add an org chart, it goes back to the default org chart and I have to pick the color and style all over again. Saving the file as a potx does not help.

Is this correct?

Try creating a new Layout in the Slide Master. Insert the Org Chart & format
it as you wish, have the users insert the new org chart slides with that
Layout from the Gallery. I've not tested that extensively but it seems to
work -- assuming all the diagrams are of the same type. Otherwise you need a
different Layout for each type required.

There is an option to insert a SmartArt Placeholder but you can't dictate
the default formatting with it.

Lucy,
I searched the menus on PP Org chart, and I can find anything in any drop
down menu called mart Art You are using PP 2007, right?
How do I drag the shape handles manually? Every time I click on a box,
there is nothing adjustable, only allowing me to change the color, border, or
font. I wouldn mind a screen shot, if you have it.
I really appreciate you answering my question. Thank you.
