powerpoint >> MS Powerpoint 2004 Crashes in Slideshow View

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

Running MS Office 2004:mac with update to 11.5.5 on Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.11 on a 2006 MacBook (Intel Core Duo)

When I click View - Slideshow, Powerpoint goes to a dark screen for about 10 secs and then closes. Happens when creating new presentations and to old presentations. Have noticed that update MS Office 2004 v11.3.2 included a patch to fix this problem, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Have tried Repair Permissions on Disk Utility, have ditched Powerpoint Preferences file and Office file from Library, created new user account and tried from there, nothing seems to fix this. Have just recently re-installed OSX and updates to 10.4.11 and Office 2004 including updates to 11.5.5 on new hard drive.

Any else experienced this problem and found a solution?

I have a similar problem with Powerpoint 2008. I am running it on MacBook Pro with 4GB of memory. This is my problem:
As soon as I connect my computer to a projector while I am in Powerpoint "regular" view, it freezes. If I disconnect the projector it unfreezes. The only way I could get it to work was shut down the computer and reboot with the monitor connected. This is not optimal when doing a presentation to a large group. Please help.

I'm running Office 2004 with 2006 Intel-based iMac with Tiger as the OS. I have a total of 1.25GB RAM, a 1.83GHz Core 2 processor, GMA 950 video card, and a 150GB HD.

My issue: PowerPoint crashes when I go to "Launch Slideshow." It also crashes whenever I want to use animation, special effects or transitions.

I've tried to download Service Pack 1 and 2 from Microsoft's website but the installation programs tell me that the "installation could not locate the correct version of the program, please check the 'Read Me' file for software requirements." According to the Read Me file, I have all the requirements.

I have a big problem. Powerpoint will at any point in time after seconds, minutes, or hours just crash. No error report just crash. I have observed there is a greater likelihood of this happening when there are lots of either and/or embedded charts using chart or charts pasted in from excel. If I make them all objects the likelihood decreases.

I am running a decent machine and think 4gig ram should run powerpoint fine.

Therefore, I conclude it is product based - but what to do about it. Basically it means saving after every change which is somewhat frustrating.

I am sure I am not the only one but couldn't find anything on the forum about this kind of general problem.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

p.s. I have all the patches installed and this happened in leopard and tiger
