powerpoint >> Inserted text sometimes vertical, why?

This is such a small niggle but it really slows me down.

Sometimes when I use the insert text button the text I enter comes out horizontal. Perfect. Othertimes it comes out vertical. Pain.

There doesn't seem to be a logic to it.

Does anyone know why, or have the answer on how to stop it happening?

Thanks

Are you referring to the Tex Box tool - I have no other idea what an "insert
text button" might be. If my interpretation is wrong please be more exact,
but if I'm right the most likely cause is...

When you create a text box there are 2 variations on the same method:

(a) Click, or
(b) Drag

If you use the click method you need to be certain that you don't move the
pointer as you click. Otherwise, you're actually *dragging* which defines
the width of the box. Since you're only dragging a tiny bit the box is
constrained to that width so as you then type the text flows vertically.

4. MPEG file in Powerpoint - sometimes starts, sometimes doesn't ???

I have inserted an MPEG file into a slide. In SlideShow mode (file set to
automatic start) it sometimes starts and sometimes doesn't. It almost never
starts the first time the slide comes up. I can usually get it to start by
backing up the show and re-displaying the slide. When it doesn't play, the
movie frame flickers but nothing happens. I've played with the "rewind"
option and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I've also tried adjusting
the animation effects (timing, start with previous) but it doesn't seem to
make a difference.

I just want the movie to start reliably when the slide is displayed.
