There are several different ways of creating links - could you describe the exact
steps you've used to create the problem link?

Also does the title text of the slide you're linking to include a comma? If so,
delete the comma, re-create the link to that slide and see if that works better.

I'm using the very latest version of Office X with all the download updates.
I'm using the very latest version of Panther etc...
I cannot create a hyperlink to a specific slide in the same presentation.

I have an index slide. I have created a mouseover click on a slide number. I
have linked that to the relevant slide. I have checked that this is set up
properly under 'action settings'. I have changed the name of the slide so that
it is not the same as any other.

I get an alert message, when I run the slide show and click on the number,
"cannot link to the file"

Any ideas?

See below ...

Excellent. Thanks for the very complete description.

Interesting. Links within a given file on the Win version normally don't
include the # though I get the same thing on PowerPoint X. In Windows PPT, only
links to external files include the #.

Can you edit that out manually? If so, does that fix the problem?

Also, had you saved the file prior to creating the link? If not, that might be
part of the problem.

I have done the following:

1. In the Formatting under "hyperlink" I have chosen "on mouse click"/"slide"
and in the pop-up window I have highlighted the relevant page and clicked
"OK"

2. Under Inser/hyperlink/document I have clicked on the locate/anchor
button and ensured that the correct page has been selected. The Link to
dialogue box now says: #4. LIABILITY 1, which is the number and name of
the page.

3. I have highlighted the slide number in the index and under slide show/
action settings I have clicked the "hyperlink to" button and selected the
correct page in the drop-down window.

The comma after #4. LIABILITY 1 under 2 above I inserted for purely
grammatical reasons. There is no comma in the title text.

The alert dialogue in the slide show says: Cannot open the specified file.

so,
better.

Wow. Magic!

Or ... hmmm ... how many links do you have in this presentation? There's a
limit to the amount of link storage space PPT allocates; once you exceed it,
link behavior seems to get unpredictable. New links might work but old ones
break. I wonder if that's what just happened here?

Are you trying this in Slide Show view? Hyperlinks to do not work in
Normal/Edit view, only in Slide Show view.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then please tell us what you are linking
to.

6. Hyperlink copied as simple text in PPT2007 rather than Hyperlink

Dear All,

Warm Greetings !!! This is BABA and I am facing one major probem related to
Hyperlinks......When copying the test from bullets and pasting it in the
custom textbox it works fine. when I copied and pasted a hyperlink in PPT2003
it was pasted as a hyperlink but when I do the same in PPT2007 it just pastes
it as a simple text. So, we will have to explicitly read and assign the
values of hyperlink from the original text to this copied one. But, this is
problematic too. As soon as I tried to read the hyperlink properties of the
original text the PPT 2007 crashes. I am working on this issue but as of now
I don't have a solution for this.

So, requesting to all mebers for their respective n valuable suggestion and
solution. Waiting...

BABA

The answer's easy, though it's not an easy answer to like:

You can't.

There are ways of converting the presentation to HTML and getting links to
external windows in the resulting HTML; that may require a commercial add-in
or a very solid knowledge of HTML and Javascript, though.
