powerpoint >> Recording Narration

Hi.

I'm using Office 2008 for the Mac.

I've been creating a series of PowerPoints with narrations. Until
today, everything has been great. I've been recording the narrations,
using the linked narration method... and it's been keeping track of the
slide timings, too.

As of today, however, after nothing else has changed, my audio recording
seems to get cut off midsentence. I don't get notice of it during the
recording... I only find out when I go to play it back and see that the
audio file is smaller and that the slide jumps to the next slide
midsentence. It's like it stopped recording midway through the speaking.

Any thoughts on what's happened?

I'm using a Logitech headset with microphone. It seems to work
properly, I don't see any other issues.

HELP! :)

Thanks!

~Jeff

Update: I thought the problem would've been that I installed iTunes 8 and QuickTime7.5.5 ... but it appears (after spending all day backing those things OUT of my system with the help of an AppleStore Genius), that it's not those apps.

Now on phone with Microsoft... we'll see if it's something else.

Jeff;

Did you get any answers from Microsoft? I'm having the same problem, but
with Powerpoint 2004. The first few presentations that I narrated were fine;
but the more presentations I narrate the worse the truncating becomes. I
even tried taking long pauses before moving on, but that doesn't work either!
I've embedded and linked, neither works. Even when playing the linked files
through iTunes, it gets cut off. My students are getting frustrated!

Hi Jeffrey,

Microsoft is aware of the problem and is investigating.

My narration is cutting off. I don't notice it until I play the slide show. How to I stop this?

I'm having the exact same difficulty.

1. Record Narration - can't cange file location for recording on VIST

On my Vista system I get an error message when I try to change the location
of the audio files. Works fine on my XP system.
Error message is:
An error occurred while opening the file dialog. Please save your
presentation, exit, and then restart PowerPoint. -- No other information is
provided.
Have saved, exited and restarted numerous times without success.

On the Record Narration window it shows under the ink narration in
C:\...\Content.MSO\ I can find no such location on my drive.

It records okay and plays back just fine.

Problem is on VISTA - I can find where it is saving the WAV files nor can
I change where it is putting them. I want to be able to edit the WAV file for
each slide.

On the XP PRO system I can define the file location and it creates a WAV
file for each slide which I can edit just fine.

Is it possible to use Presenter View while recording a narration? I've tried
it but when recording a narration you only seem to have the option of a

Any help appreciated.

5. trying to record narration using Powerpoint 2007

MacBook w Intel core 2 duo 2.4 MHz CPU (OS X 10.5.6 when running as a Mac)
WindowsXP sp3 under Bootcamp
Powerpoint 2007
Logitech microphone and headset

I've created my slides using Powerpoint 2004 on my trusted MacBookPro (OS
10.4.11) and ported them over to the MacBook on which I'm running WindowsXP
so I can use the sound recording features of Powerpoint 2007. I'm trying to
embed the narration on each slide.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I've managed to get about 4 hrs
of lectures recorded but it's always been after several attempts where I'd
record but end up with no sound.

Mystery is that even though the microphone check within Powerpoint 2007
shows green bars when I speak, there often is NO SOUND when I play back the
presentation.

Via the control panel in Windows, the Logitech headset and microphone ARE
selected as the input device and they pass the Windows hardware test.

Just now I tried recording using both of the two USB ports for the headset
and got no sound, although the little speaker icons are present on each
slide. Without changing anything, I opened up one of the files where I'd
been successful in the past, and that file's sound came through just fine on
that same Logitech headset.

Is this a Powerpoint issue or a MacBook issue?

7. VBA (Record Narration)

I am trying to set some default options before users Record a Narration. The
following is a list of things that I can't figure out how to do in VBA:

1. I would like to change the value of Tools | Options | General | Link
sounds with file size greater than... to be 50000

2. I would like to open the Record Narration Form "Slide Show | Record
Narration..."

3. I would like to set the default Wav quality "Slide Show | Record
Narration | Change Quality..." to be "8.000 kHz, 8 Bit, Mono"

4. If anyone can give me *any* information on controlling the Record a
Narration function that would be appreciated. Or if you can point me to a
free addin or an example that gives similar functionality that would be great.

Thanks,
Kent.
