Have you tried launching the program & using File> Open rather than
dbl-clicking the file icon. AutoRecover may be able to reconstruct the file.

If not, go to:

User/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 AutoRecovery

See if there is a file named PowerPoint Temp. If it's there, dbl-click it &
see if it opens enough to save the recovered data.

Otherwise, Sorry, but if the file is that badly damaged there's little
likelihood of recovering it. Your best bet is to get it to a PC running
Office 2003/2007. They may be able to recover at least most of what was
saved prior to quitting the program but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

1. ppt crashes when opening ppt files

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I have a ppt file that was created on the last version of Powerpoint that I had on a Powerbook last December. I have since upgraded the computer to a Macbook Pro and Office to 2008. Now I cannot open the file - it crashes Powerpoint on every attempt.

The file contains a few videos and graphics. The videos are IIRC mov and the images are jpg.

Any suggestions on how I can force it to open the file? Can it be opened by disabling images/videos?

TIA

If the headache stops when you cease whacking yourself on the head with a
hammer, is the hammer or your head to be blamed? ;-)

Norton's notorious for causing mischief with PPT. Check to see if there's an
Office or PowerPoint checking feature; if so, you can probably disable it and
turn Norton back on.

Hi there,
When I open Powerpoint, there are two files that I created a while ago, that
I can't seem to get rid of in the Document Recovery task bar.

When I go through the process to either recover them or delete them, no
matter what I get an error message "Cannot delete file: cannot read from the
source disk or file".
any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
