ISA Clients >> accessing newsgroups with firewall client

have to disable firewall client to access newsgroups. Suspect a firewall
rule is necessary on ISA (ISA Server 2006 and TMG beta). is this the case?

Hi,

yes, ISA is a Firewall, so you have to create firewall rules to allow NNTP.
You can use the builtin protocol definition for the NNTP protocol, to create
a firewall rule, which allows the traffic.

1. Client Web access, POP3, HTTP, Newsgroups

I have installed the ISA 2000, which is part of my SBS 2000.e When
installed it I did have access to the web for the server as well as the
client, I did not even have to install any software (Firewall client or NAT
client) on the client side. However, I was not able to have POP3 email as
well as access to the news group, which I believe requires HTTP to
activated.

So, I changed multiple settings. After the changes, I lost access to the web
for the server as well as the client.

In order to corect this, I ran the wizards again on the ISA server, which I
think reset all the settings. Immediately, I had web access for the server
only. None of the clients have access.

My question is, How can I get web access for the client and allow POP3,
since I am hosting my web external as well as allow HTTP.

My network environment, I have a server with two NICs One for external, one
for internal. The external is connected directly to the router.

The first NIC, which is the internal is through my DHCP 10.100.0.x
The second NIC, is 192.168.1.x and the router IP 192.168.1.x

I already specified the DHCP through ISA.
The ISA is running in an integrated mode.

In reference to installing the client software on the client machines, I do
have some questions:
Which one I should choose (SecureNAT or FireWall client)?
Whatever client would be recommended, would it effect any client that
access the internet without being connected to the server (mobile client
with laptops)?

Any ideas or solutions, would be appreciated. If you need any further
information, please ask in simple terms as I am still a novice on ISA
terminology. Thank you...

3. FTP client access issues using firewall client

W2k3, ISA 2004, Clients are using the Firewall client.

Clients are unable to access FTP sites. When using ftp.exe the connection
times out.

I have a firewall policy access rule called "FTP Cient access" which is set
to allow the default FTP protocol from all protected networks to external
network for all users. I have tried filtered and un-filtered and i know
about the Read only setting, but it makes no difference because i cannot
connect.

I can connect from the ISA server with no problems.

Any assistance you can give would be great!

Thanks,
Steve

SBS2K3 ISA 2000.

Is there a way to allow one client PC access to the internet (and MSN
Messenger etc...) without using the proxy?

I have one PC that must use MSN
Messenger Video conferencing 3-4 times a week. I would love the rest of the
PC's to be using ISA however.

Thanks
