ISA Clients >> PC Anywhere protocol configuration

by TW9zaGU » Tue, 06 Dec 2005 20:47:02 GMT

I have Win XPP SP2 clients with ISA firewall enabled, SBS 2003 SP1 with ISA
2004.
I need to configure ISA to allow the clients to use PC-Anywhere to access
external sources. I know PC Anywhere is using Ports 5631-5632, when I try to
configure ISA to allow both ports for outbound and inbound, i get an error.
Any idea on the correct configuration ?
Thanks!

Hi,

do you mean Firewall Client?

you only need to create a protocol definiton for Ports 5631-5632 in
direction outbound!

Yes, Firewall client.

Hi,

I have previously configured inbound packet filters for PC Anywhere without
any issues on ISA servers that host PC Anywhere however recently these are no
longer working. I can only suspect that a new security update is affecting.
Any ideas appreciated.

Hi

I followed ms kb 838111 to allow acces and open ports for pc anywhere but it
didn't fix my problem. I need to reach a client host running pc anywhere from
inside my network. Is there any procedure that i can follow that would give
permission to my client outside my network reaching a client inside. I tought
of using a vpn connection to reach it but the internet connection of my
client drop contantly. Thanks in advanced

8. PC Anywhere Behind ISA Server

I am trying to connect from the Internet to a client PC in our network using
PC Anywhere. I have done the following;

Defined the following protocol definitions in ISA;

PC-Anywhere-1 : 5631 TCP - Inbound
PC-Anywhere-2 : 5621 UDP - Receive-Send
PC-Anywhere-3 : 5632 TCP - Inbound
PC-Anywhere-4 : 5632 UDP - Receive-Send

Created 4 server publishing rules - one for each protocol definition
entering the internal IP address of the PC Anywhere client to be controlled
and the external address of the ISA server on each occasion.

As an initial test I then position a PC Anywhere control PC between my ISA
server and my internet router and attempt a connection to the PC Anywhere
client through the ISA server (the control PC is on the same IP address
range as the ISA external NIC and the Internet router and can ping each). To
do this I tell PC Anywhere to connect to the external IP of the ISA server
which should route the request (if my understanding is correct) to the PC
Anywhere client on my internal network. I then receive the message 'Timeout
looking for connection'

Any suggestion on where I am going wrong or how I might best troubleshoot
this issue would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
