ISA Clients >> Install via GPO

I know it's been asked before, but it's never really been answered.

I want to deploy FWC via a computer GPO. So I create the GPO, the computer
picks it up, applies it. So far do good.

Now, when the user logs in, he gets this noce dialog box on configuring
FWC. I want this thing silent. I need 2 policies. One to autoconfig the
proxy server, and one to hardcode it in. I want both of those to not show
the icon when connected. I only want the shortcut in the start program list
to appear for the administrator.

The standard answer to the newsgroup is usally that you can set client
configuration on the server. When I go to my server, start the ISA Server
management, goto config, an then client config. The only 2 things I can set
is whether to allow non-encrypted connections and a list of programs.

So How is everything else set up???

Further to my own posting, everytime a non-admin user logs in, the user is
prompted for configuration details.

Did you try a "per-machine" installation in the GPO? That is, the package
should be "Assigned" not "Advertised" in the GPO.

It was. Actually the prompt went away on the 3rd login. I still need to
know how to silently install the client and set all the options I need.

I was just reading your post for a second time. What proxy settings do you
want to configure/hardcode? The IE proxy settings? That is actually being
done through a separate setting in GPO's - doesn't have to be linked to the
FWC deployment.

I'm trying to configure the FWC options. Proxy name, hide if connected,
I'd also like to not have the shortcut show up in the user's program's
menu. Basically, I don't want the user to have any acccess to the FWC.

K,

Apparently you cannot achieve that result directly... This article at MS
discuss all options available:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;838122&spid=2108&sid=global

As you can see, the fw client installation doesn't appear to have those
options...

What you can do though, is edit the COMMON.INI file (fw client config file)
on the client machine AFTER the installation; just create some login script
that deploys your custom COMMON.INI file on each client machine at logon.

The COMMON.INI file from the fw client has several sections, you will find
easily the part that refers to the server's IP address etc.

To make the tray icon invisible you need to have this in COMMON.INI

[TrayIcon]
TrayIconVisualState=0

(This hint has actually been posted before by Jens Baier so credit goes to
him)

2. Installing Firewall Client via GPO

Greetings! I am setting up the Microsoft Firewall Client v4 to be rolled out
via Group Policy. So far everything seems to be working fine, it installs
and picks up the WPAD record I set in DNS, but for some reason it adds the
Client Manager to the StartUp folder, causing it to show up everytime the
user logs in. Any ideas on why this happens? It doesn't seem to do it
during a regular install, only when it's rolled out via GPO.

Thanks!

4. Disabling Preview Pane via GPO

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to disable the Preview pane organization-wide via a
GPO. I've found that there are preview pane settings in the outlk10.adm file
that comes with the ORK, but there is no option to turn the pane off.

Does anyone know of custom settings I could add to the adm file that would
make this work?

6. Disabling cache mode via GPO

Is it possible to disable cache mode via GPO. I know you can make it so new
profiles start in non-cached mode.

There is one setting that appears to disable cache mode "cached exchange
mode", but after I apply the GPO to a test workstation in a test OU, the
cached mode setting is still checked. Is the system working in noncacehd
mode even though the check mark is checked?

Thanks,
